In an October 4, 2026 post, Chief Creative Officer Stefan Strandberg said the studio used full motion capture and a more detailed facial likeness to capture more of Gardner’s performance. The change is tied to the Frozen Trail update, scheduled for October 8.
What is changing for Celeste?
Embark says Gardner has voiced Celeste since ARC Raiders began, but the character’s previous expressive limitations kept her from conveying the full depth of Gardner’s performance. For the Frozen Trail trailer, the studio said it used full motion capture for the first time, along with a more detailed face intended to map expressions and emotion more accurately.
Embark says the update will bring Celeste closer to Gardner in-game, with the character’s real voice and face matching for the first time. The announcement describes a change in how Celeste’s performance is represented; it does not give a count of lines replaced or describe the prior production method for her dialogue.
Does this mean ARC Raiders is replacing all AI voices?
No such broad replacement was announced. Strandberg’s October post focuses on Celeste’s motion capture, facial likeness, and alignment with Gardner’s performance. It does not say every AI-generated voice line will be removed, quantify AI-generated dialogue, or promise that all characters will use human-recorded speech.

For earlier context, Dot Esports reported on August 4, 2026, citing an interview with Embark studio head Patrick Söderlund, that the studio had re-recorded some AI-generated lines with human actors while continuing to use licensed text-to-speech in selected situations. That account is separate from Embark’s October announcement, which does not specify whether or how those practices will change.
How do voice acting and motion capture differ?
Voice recording captures spoken dialogue; motion capture records an actor’s physical performance, while facial capture can map expressions onto a character. These are related parts of a character performance, but they are not interchangeable. The October announcement specifically describes motion capture and a closer facial likeness for Celeste, alongside her real voice. It does not explain a particular AI process previously used for her lines.
Embark’s 2025 sound design article says most game audio comes from live recordings and discusses combining recordings with procedural systems. That general description of the game’s audio production does not establish how Celeste’s former dialogue was made.
Will more ARC Raiders characters get actor-aligned performances?
Embark says it plans to bring more characters closer to their real-world actors in future updates. Strandberg wrote, “In future updates, we plan to bring more characters in line with their real-world actors.” The studio has not named those characters or provided a timetable.
When does Celeste’s change arrive, and where can you play?
The official ARC Raiders site lists the Frozen Trail update for October 8, 2026. It lists the game on Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and GeForce NOW. See the official ARC Raiders site for current game and platform information.
