For Hero Tale version 1.4.18, Pocket Gamer’s late-game ranged build raises critical chance before critical multiplier and pairs a Compound Bow with Carapean gear. Its melee build opens with Divine Immunity and Onrush, then develops critical strike with a Daemon Dagger, Enchanted Shield, Enchanted Sword, and Carapean set. These are adaptable progression examples—not proof that one build always beats the other.
The recommendations below come from Pocket Gamer’s guide, updated October 5, 2026 for version 1.4.18. The guide credits player @HabibTryHard with the underlying builds and says its skill-tree paths can be adjusted. The levels shown are examples, not requirements for every character.
Which build should you choose?
| Path | Core approach | Example equipment | Shown progression |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ranged | Raise critical chance before investing more heavily in critical multiplier; take survivability and movement nodes along the way. | Compound Bow and Carapean set. | Late-game tree shown at about level 73. |
| Melee | Start with Divine Immunity and Onrush, then invest in critical strike. | Daemon Dagger, Enchanted Shield, Enchanted Sword, and Carapean set. | Examples shown around levels 65 and 188. |
Pocket Gamer says ranged builds once had a substantial advantage but no longer do, while remaining potent; it also says ranged was not nerfed. The guide attributes melee’s improved strength to a developer rework of blocking. These are the guide’s balance characterizations, not independently verified developer balance data. There are no win-rate or damage comparisons establishing a universally stronger path. The Steam listing describes Hero Tale as an idle RPG with melee, ranged, and magic combat, and loot suited to a player’s fighting strategy: Steam store page.
Ranged build: prioritize critical chance
The guide’s main ranged principle is to improve the chance of landing critical hits before leaning into critical damage. In its progression example, critical multiplier becomes more useful after critical chance has been raised. It also recommends defensive and movement investments rather than treating damage as the only concern.

Early skill priorities

- Critical chance and critical damage.
- Health and defence.
- Movement speed.
- Magic nodes last.
When the Dark tree is available
With the Dark tree available, the guide recommends HP nodes, Hermes Feet, and Hunter, followed by Falcon Agility. Around level 50, it points toward Man of Focus and Weak Spot Hunt. After level 60, it recommends Berserker Soul, where the greater value of critical multiplier depends on having already raised critical chance.

Ranged equipment and where to get it
- Compound Bow: buy it from the Inventor’s Shop at the Inventor’s Atelier. Until it is available, use the gear that gives the most damage output.
- Carapean set: the guide lists Barnaba’s Shop at Deamon Market or a reward for defeating Deamon Mercenary as sources.
Melee build: establish defence and attack flow first
The melee path begins with survival and attack flow, then turns toward critical-strike investment. Divine Immunity increases defence by 10% according to the guide and applies to item stats. Onrush charges an attack while searching for the next opponent; the guide notes this can help when farming.
Melee skill priorities
- Take Divine Immunity early for its defensive benefit.
- Take Onrush to charge attacks while moving between opponents.
- Invest in Crit Master after those early choices.
Melee equipment and where to get it
- Carapean set: listed at Barnaba’s Shop at Deamon Market or as a Deamon Mercenary reward.
- Daemon Dagger: listed at Barnaba’s Shop.
- Enchanted Shield: dropped by Monstrous Skeleton in the Graveyard.
- Enchanted Sword: dropped by Necromancer in Shadow Temple. The guide warns it may require significant farming.
Adapt the paths to your progression
The guide presents specific skill-tree examples, but says the skill forest allows many node choices and that its recommendations can be tweaked. Choose according to your combat style, available skill points, access to the listed equipment, and current progression goal. Its ranged example is around level 73; the melee examples are around levels 65 and 188, so the two displayed endpoints do not represent equivalent point budgets. The guide also cautions that a simple build guide cannot account for every boss encounter.
