Reports published October 6, 2026 say purported Xbox Design Lab backend records point to a possible new Elite controller with Hall-effect or TMR stick options and four versions. None of those details is confirmed by Microsoft: the records reportedly could not be inspected by the outlets, and the reviewed coverage says Microsoft had not announced a new Elite controller.
What the Xbox Elite Controller 3 leak claims
The reports trace the claims to a Reddit user who reportedly found configuration records and component models associated with Spectrum Customizer, described by VGC as the backend provider for Xbox Design Lab. Windows Central reported that the relevant Xbox Design Lab APIs had already been taken down when its writer viewed the coverage; Tech My Money said it could not inspect the Reddit post or records itself. That leaves secondary reporting about purported backend material, not an official announcement or an independently inspectable product specification.
Among the features attributed to those records are:
- Hall-effect and TMR thumbstick options, with standard, loose, and tight tension choices for Hall-effect sticks.
- Low-friction or silent stick options.
- Impulse Trigger motors and “advanced haptics,” described in the reports as voice-coil actuator motors.
- A dedicated audio scroll wheel.
- Metal and colored faceplates, engraving, and multiple D-pad and paddle designs.
- As many as 27 mapped combinations of thumbstick toppers and paddles.
These are leak claims, not a confirmed feature list. Hall-effect or TMR sticks should not be described as “drift-proof”: there is no Series 3 testing or field evidence in the reviewed coverage.

How the four alleged versions are said to differ
The reporting describes two tiers—base and “complete”—with each tier reportedly split into a version with the full haptics motors and one without them. It does not establish what either tier would include in the box.
| Alleged tier | Reported distinction | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| Base | One version reportedly has the full haptics motors; another reportedly does not. | Exact contents, price, availability, and final specifications. |
| “Complete” | One version reportedly has the full haptics motors; another reportedly does not. | Exact contents, price, availability, and final specifications. |
Ideas that a “complete” package might include a charging dock or case are speculation, not confirmed inclusions. If the four-SKU claim proves accurate, the sourced distinctions are tier and inclusion of the full haptics motors; the reports do not provide enough information to compare exact bundles or prices.
What is unknown about a Series 3
The reviewed October 6 reports do not establish an official product name, final feature list, price, launch date, battery specification, wireless details, or package contents. Windows Central’s writer said he expected a controller before Christmas, but that was his expectation—not a date announced by Microsoft. Whether the records are authentic, or whether Microsoft will ship a controller with these features, remains unresolved in the reviewed coverage.

Microsoft’s product page documents the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 as supporting adjustable-tension thumbsticks, interchangeable thumbstick toppers, D-pads and paddles, and custom profiles. Microsoft lists compatibility with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PCs, and select mobile devices. It also specifies up to 40 hours per charge and notes that battery life varies with usage and other factors. These are Series 2 specifications; they do not confirm Series 3 compatibility, battery life, or features.
