GOG’s Preservation Program launched on November 13, 2024, with 100 classic games. That was the launch count, not the current catalog size: GOG’s program page showed 305 games in its headline count and “Showing 285 games” on October 7, 2026. GOG describes the program as an ongoing effort to test selected games, make compatibility or quality-of-life improvements where needed, and maintain their compatibility with modern and future systems.
What the GOG Preservation Program does
GOG announced the program on November 13, 2024, as an official designation for classic games that GOG has improved. It says selected games undergo quality testing and, where appropriate, receive custom compatibility or quality-of-life work. GOG also says it commits its own resources to maintaining compatibility with modern and future systems. These are GOG’s stated commitments, not a guarantee that every title will work on every computer or future configuration.
The launch announcement highlighted Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete and Dungeon Keeper 2 among the 100 launch titles. GOG characterized its program editions as the best and most complete versions available, citing factors such as compatibility, manuals, bonus content, downloadable content, and features that may be missing from other editions. That characterization is GOG’s; the announcement is not an independent comparison of every edition. GOG’s program announcement and its November 2024 press release explain the launch.
What the 100-game launch figure means
The figure of 100 describes the program’s initial collection in November 2024. It should not be read as the present total. The official program page, accessed October 7, 2026, displayed both “Games in the program: 305” and “Showing 285 games.” Those figures do not match, so neither should be presented as an unqualified, reconciled catalog count. The page’s display may change over time.

A separate anniversary post named Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight, Star Control III, Sid Meier’s Covert Action, Monster Bash, and MegaRace 1+2. What buyers can expect from a program game
At launch, GOG said buyers could expect support for current and future popular PC configurations, access to GOG technical support for technical issues, and offline installers. It also described the program editions as including the most complete available package for a title where applicable. These are GOG’s promises and descriptions; actual compatibility can depend on the game and a particular system, and GOG’s wording does not amount to a universal performance guarantee.

For a specific game, use the product page and program listing to check what is included and which operating system is supported. If you are comparing editions, look at the compatibility work, manuals and bonus content, DLC, platform support, and current sale availability rather than assuming that the program label settles every comparison.

GOG’s current program FAQ says a game remains part of the Preservation Program even if it is delisted from sale, and that GOG intends to continue ensuring its compatibility. In other words, program membership describes GOG’s preservation commitment; it does not promise that a title will always be available for a new purchase. This is the status described on GOG’s page as accessed October 7, 2026.

Which operating systems are covered?
As of October 7, 2026, GOG’s program FAQ says the initiative is Windows-only. The page says GOG’s priority is to preserve as many games as possible before expanding to other operating systems. That states the program’s current scope, not that every Windows game is compatible with every Windows PC; support scope could change as GOG updates the program page. Check the individual game listing for its supported platform.
