Yes—but only briefly. On March 2, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem reportedly moved to the top of Metacritic’s all-time user-score chart with a 9.5, edging Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on Metacritic’s unrounded calculation. Expedition 33 soon reclaimed first place, so the record was temporary, not a clear win “by far.”
What happened on Metacritic’s all-time user-score chart?
Video Games Chronicle reported on March 2, 2026, that Requiem had reached a 9.5 user score and briefly sat ahead of Expedition 33. Although both games displayed 9.5, VGC said Metacritic’s unrounded calculation put Requiem slightly in front. GamesRadar later reported that Expedition 33 reclaimed the top position. The reports describe a close, shifting chart result—not a decisive margin.

The comparison concerns Metacritic’s user-score ranking, not its critic-review ranking. User scores are submitted by players and can change as more ratings arrive; VGC also cautioned that such ratings can skew toward extreme scores and reflect popularity or notoriety as well as reactions to a game.
What score does the game page show now?
Metacritic’s game page, captured October 7, 2026, showed a 9.3 user score from 15,419 ratings. It separately showed an 89 Metascore from 133 critic reviews. Those figures measure different things: the user score aggregates player ratings, while the Metascore reflects critic reviews. Neither current page figure is the 9.5 reported during the March chart peak.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
The captured game page establishes those displayed values, but not Requiem’s current position on Metacritic’s all-time user-score chart or its current unrounded average. Because rankings and rating totals can change, the March reports should be treated as a dated historical record rather than proof that the game still leads.

Capcom announced on March 16, 2026, that the game had surpassed 6 million worldwide sales, calling it the fastest title in the series to reach that milestone. The company also said it planned additional game content. These sales figures provide context for the game’s reach, but they do not establish what caused its user-score chart position.

It supports a narrower claim: Requiem briefly led Metacritic’s all-time user-score chart, according to March 2026 reporting. It does not show that the game is objectively the best in the series, that every player agrees, or that it holds the record today. A user-score chart is one measure of player-submitted ratings at a particular time, not a universal verdict on quality.
