Marx is a Kirby character introduced in Kirby Super Star. He is best known for deceiving Kirby in the Milky Way Wishes story, but he later appears as a playable Dream Friend who can fight alongside Kirby in Kirby Star Allies.
What role does Marx play in Kirby?
In the account of Milky Way Wishes summarized by the fan-maintained Kirby Wiki, Marx initially presents himself as helpful. He asks Kirby to gather power from the Dream Fountains so Kirby can summon Galactic Nova and stop the Sun and Moon from fighting. The summary says Marx caused their conflict so he could use Nova’s wish to take control of Popstar.
That makes Marx a deceptive antagonist in his debut story: his apparent assistance serves his own plan. This plot description comes from a secondary source, rather than the official Nintendo pages cited below.
Why can Marx fight alongside Kirby?
Marx is also a Dream Friend in Kirby Star Allies. Nintendo describes Dream Friends as “special playable characters who can fight alongside Kirby” and includes Marx among them on its official game page. Nintendo’s US product listing identifies the game as a Nintendo Switch title released March 16, 2018.

So Marx’s appearances have different contexts: he is an antagonist in the Milky Way Wishes story, while Star Allies lets players recruit and play as him. The official listing establishes his Dream Friend role; it does not explain this as a canonical change of heart.
How does Nintendo describe Marx?
Nintendo’s Kirby Air Riders character page describes him as “A friendly face hiding dark and twisted schemes. Has impressive stats but can’t take a hit.” The first sentence echoes his scheming characterization; the second is Nintendo’s published gameplay description, not an independent performance assessment. See the official Riders & Machines page.

Where might you have seen Marx?
Players may recognize Marx from a crossover appearance such as Super Smash Bros. without knowing his Kirby story. His original context is Kirby Super Star’s Milky Way Wishes; his later recruitable role is in Kirby Star Allies. These appearances show him in different game contexts, rather than establishing that his villainous plot never happened.
