Claire loves Cid as his older sister: the official English publisher descriptions show her taking him into danger and trying to save him. They do not confirm romantic feelings. The distinction matters because Claire’s intense protectiveness can invite other readings, but the evidence reviewed supports sibling affection, not a canon romance.
What is confirmed about Claire and Cid?
Yen Press identifies Claire as Cid’s older sister in its official English descriptions for The Eminence in Shadow, Vol. 7 (manga) and The Eminence in Shadow, Vol. 8 (manga). The descriptions present her actions in a family context: she takes Cid to the Lawless City, and later enters danger on a mission to save him.

Is Claire’s love romantic?
The publisher descriptions do not describe Claire’s feelings as romantic, and no author statement clarifying romantic intent was located in the reviewed material. A secondary FAQ characterizes Claire’s love as familial and frames her strictness as preparation for Cid’s future, but that is a secondary summary—not an author quote or primary canon statement.
So the best-supported answer is protective sibling love. The reviewed sources do not establish a romance, but they also cannot rule out every possible interpretation or settle what a future explicit statement might say. Claire’s protective behavior is observable; treating it as romantic is an interpretation rather than a confirmed fact.

Which version does this evidence cover?
The concrete examples here come from Yen Press’s English manga volume descriptions, not a direct review of every light novel, manga chapter, anime episode, or game story. Readers comparing adaptations should check the specific version and scene: a publisher blurb establishes how that edition is presented, but it does not by itself settle every adaptation’s portrayal.
