If cheats aren’t working in The Sims 4, first check whether the cheat console opens, then use the activation command for your platform: testingcheats true on PC or Mac, or testingcheats on on PlayStation or Xbox. Enter the cheat you want as a separate command afterward.
Console warning: Activating testing cheats disables achievements or trophies for the current save. EA says other saves are unaffected. EA’s cheats FAQ and console instructions explain the platform-specific steps.

Open the cheat console on your platform
Make sure The Sims 4 is active in a game session before entering a cheat. The button combination depends on your platform. EA also says that a mouse-and-keyboard setup connected to a console can use Ctrl+Shift+C.

If the console does not appear
- Check that the game is active, then retry the exact key or button combination for your platform.
- On PlayStation or Xbox, press all four shoulder buttons together rather than one after another.
- If you play on console with a mouse and keyboard, try Ctrl+Shift+C.
EA’s instructions establish the standard inputs; they do not identify a universal cause when the console fails to open. If the correct combination still does not work, the specific issue may depend on your setup.

Activate testing cheats first
Enter the activation command for your platform and confirm it: testingcheats true on PC or Mac, or testingcheats on on PlayStation or Xbox. Then enter the desired cheat as a new command and confirm it separately. EA’s skill-cheat example uses this two-command sequence.

Check the code and where you are using it
- Check the cheat’s spelling and any required parameters, such as a skill name or level.
- Confirm that the command is intended for the game mode or activity you are currently using. EA’s instructions distinguish cheats for Live mode from Build mode; a code may not apply in every screen.
- Enter the command again as a separate line after testing cheats is enabled, rather than combining it with the activation command.
