God Killer is a three-piece firmware set in Borderlands 4 built around Badass enemies: one piece boosts damage against them, two add protection from them, and three grant a temporary damage buff after a Badass kill. The set’s tiers are based on how many matching firmware pieces you equip—not your character level.
What does God Killer firmware do?
The reported God Killer bonuses build as you equip more matching firmware pieces. The values below are listed by Nerd’s Chalk and corroborated by All Things How and Insider Gaming.
| God Killer pieces equipped | Reported set bonus | What it means in play |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | +10% damage dealt to Badass enemies | More damage against the targeted enemy type. |
| 2 | −10% damage taken from Badass enemies | Adds targeted defense while retaining the one-piece bonus. |
| 3 | After killing a Badass, +20% damage for 60 seconds | A temporary damage window that requires a Badass kill to start. |
These are the mechanics reported by secondary guides; no official developer reference or current patch note confirming the values was identified. Check the in-game set description if you need to confirm behavior for a particular patch.
Does God Killer scale with character level?
The set’s “levels” are its one-, two-, and three-piece thresholds, not three named item levels. Guide sources report that firmware begins appearing in loot at around character level 25, but this is an approximate guide-reported threshold, not an official drop table. All Things How and PC Gamer report the level-25 estimate.

What gear can carry God Killer firmware?
Firmware is reported on five non-weapon gear categories: Repkits, Ordnance, Class Mods, Energy Shields, and Enhancements. Guns do not carry firmware, so you can equip up to five firmware-bearing items at once. One, two, or three items with God Killer activate the corresponding set tier.
That leaves room to mix sets: for example, three God Killer pieces can activate its full bonus while two other firmware pieces contribute to another set. The trade-off is that God Killer uses three of your five available firmware slots.

When is God Killer useful?
God Killer is specialized rather than universally useful: its first two bonuses explicitly target Badass enemies, and its three-piece effect depends on killing one. It is most appealing in encounters with frequent Badass enemies, particularly when your build can secure a kill and make use of the following 60-second damage window. The listed effects do not provide a bonus against ordinary enemies.
- Consider it when Badass enemies appear often in the content you play.
- Consider whether your build can reliably finish a Badass and whether the temporary damage boost will overlap with a boss or other priority target.
- Weigh the three-slot commitment against a different set that may offer steadier benefits in your usual encounters.
A guide from Nerd’s Chalk suggests a Rafa setup using three firmware-bearing items, a burst-damage weapon to secure Badass kills, and a defensive shield for tougher encounters. Treat that as one suggested approach, not a tested build or a best-in-slot verdict; the available sources do not compare it with alternatives.

How do you transfer firmware?
All Things How reports that Firmware Transfer Machines become available after the main story and move firmware only between items of the same category. The guide reports a cost of cash plus 100 Eridium. It also says the donor item is destroyed, and the firmware cannot be extracted from the recipient afterward, although it can be overwritten. These are secondary-source descriptions of the mechanics, so confirm the machine’s current in-game prompts before committing valuable gear.
