Open PlayStation Store Transaction History first. It shows whether a purchase went through and provides details that can help identify an unfamiliar charge. You can check on the web, PS5, PS4, or PlayStation App; if the charge still does not make sense, check subscriptions and family spending before following PlayStation’s unauthorized-charge guidance.
Check PlayStation Store Transaction History
Sony’s PlayStation Support guide explains how to review transaction history on four platforms. Its walkthrough is for the UK, so menu labels and available options may differ by region.

On the web
- Sign in to Account Management.
- Select Transaction History, choose a date range, and open a transaction to see its details.
Sony says the online view shows the past two years by default. Change the date range if you need to check another period.
On PS5
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History.
- Select the account, choose a date range, and select a transaction to view its details.
On PS5, only the family manager can see family members’ transaction history.

For an unfamiliar wallet-funding charge, Sony also recommends checking transaction history first. If the history confirms a transaction but does not explain it, use the checks below before deciding what to do next.
Check common explanations for an unfamiliar charge
A subscription renewed
Review your subscription settings and compare the renewal date and amount with the transaction. Sony notes that refund limits apply to subscription payments; eligibility depends on the relevant policy and purchase type.

A family member or child account made a purchase
Check the transaction history for each relevant account. Child accounts do not have separate PlayStation wallets: they can spend from the family manager’s wallet within the spending limit set for them. Sony says the limit is set to zero by default when a family manager creates a child account.
The charge may be a duplicate
Compare the PlayStation transaction history with your bank or card statement. Confirm whether the entries represent separate purchases before reporting one as unauthorized; Sony says some payments have refund limitations.

Another account used the same payment method
If several PlayStation accounts use the same card or other payment method, review each account’s transaction history. A charge may appear unfamiliar because it belongs to a different account holder.
If you still do not recognize the payment
Follow PlayStation’s unauthorized-payment guidance. The steps differ depending on whether you have a PlayStation account and whether you can still access it. For an unexplained wallet-funding charge, Sony’s wallet-funding troubleshooting guide also directs users to that process. Contact PlayStation Support for unresolved account or payment issues.

You do not have a PlayStation account
If you suspect someone used your payment details to create an account, contact PlayStation Support promptly and change the password for the email account associated with your payment or correspondence. Sony specifically advises changing your email password immediately in this situation.
You have an account but cannot access it
Use the compromised-account route in PlayStation’s unauthorized-payment guidance and contact Support if you cannot resolve access or payment issues. Avoid sharing account credentials or payment details except through official PlayStation support channels.

Reduce the risk of future unauthorized purchases
Sony’s US Terms of Service say an account setting may be available on some devices that requires a password or another authentication method, such as a passkey, to complete payment transactions. This is not a universal option with identical availability on every device. Sony also warns that enabling some authentication methods may disable “Require Password at Checkout” or current two-step verification, or require additional information. Check the prompts and account settings for your device before changing authentication options.
Sony’s US cancellation policy also recommends password and passcode tools to help control unauthorized logins and purchases. Its refund guidance directs users to PlayStation Support or the refund support page. Refund eligibility depends on the applicable regional policy and purchase type; an unauthorized or disputed charge is not automatically guaranteed a refund.
Regional policy and menu differences
The transaction-history instructions above come from Sony’s UK support page, while the unauthorized-charge guidance, Terms of Service, and cancellation policy cited here are US editions. Sony’s interface and refund rules can vary by region and change. Use PlayStation Support and legal pages for the region associated with your account when checking current menus, security options, or refund eligibility.
