A lock on a PS5 game usually means the console cannot confirm the account’s license or entitlement, or is having a network problem. Check which account bought the game first; then verify any PlayStation Plus access, Console Sharing and Offline Play settings, and the license. A padlock alone does not identify one specific cause.
Why PS5 games are locked after switching accounts
Game access is tied to the PlayStation Network account that purchased it. Sign into that account and check its transaction history to confirm the purchase. If the game was obtained through PlayStation Plus rather than bought outright, check that the subscription is active and the title is still available through the service. Sony’s locked-game troubleshooting guide covers these entitlement checks.
Why games are locked after switching consoles
On one PS5 at a time, an account can enable Console Sharing and Offline Play. Other users on that console can then play the owner’s purchased and downloaded games, including when the console is offline. If the game belongs to another account, that owner must enable the feature on the PS5 you are using.
To move sharing to a new console, disable it on the previous PS5, then enable it on the new one: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. Sony’s Console Sharing and Offline Play guide explains the one-console-at-a-time limit. Sony also limits remote deactivation of all devices to once every six months.

Restore PS5 game licenses
Restoring licenses can help when the console does not recognize access that the account should have. On the PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, select the licenses to restore, and follow the prompts. Sony says restoring licenses does not affect saved data. See Sony’s license restoration instructions.
What to do if the game still will not start
- Confirm the owner and entitlement. Sign in to the account that bought the game and check transaction history. For a PlayStation Plus game, confirm the subscription is active and the title remains available.
- Check Console Sharing and Offline Play. If a different account owns the game, make sure that account has enabled sharing on this PS5. When moving consoles, disable sharing on the previous PS5 before enabling it on the new one.
- Restore licenses. Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Check connectivity and software. Check PlayStation Network status and install the current PS5 system software.
- Try Sony’s Safe Mode troubleshooting if needed. After the entitlement and basic checks, Sony’s download troubleshooting guide recommends clearing the cache and rebuilding the database in Safe Mode.
- Contact PlayStation Support if it remains unresolved. Provide the error code, the steps that reproduce the issue, and the date and time you tried to access the game.
What CE-109245-1 means
Sony describes error CE-109245-1 as: “The license information of the content can’t be confirmed.” Its CE-109245-1 support page directs players to sign in as the account owner and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play among the initial troubleshooting steps. The code points to a license-confirmation problem; it does not by itself establish whether the underlying issue is account entitlement, sharing configuration, or connectivity.
