Yes—CD PROJEKT RED says existing save files remain compatible with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition (Remastered), and cross-progression remains functional. A past purchase also qualifies for a free upgrade, but only within the same platform ecosystem. The Remastered version launched September 29, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Will your existing Witcher 3 saves work?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED’s official Remastered FAQ says: “Your save files remain compatible and Cross Progression will remain functional the same as before.” That is the publisher’s general compatibility answer for existing saves.
The FAQ does not spell out compatibility for every unusual case, such as saves affected by mods. If your save is modded, the broad official answer is still yes, but the reviewed FAQ does not provide a mod-specific guarantee.
How does cross-progression work?
Cross-progression is separate from upgrade eligibility: it concerns continuing a save across platforms, not getting another platform’s copy for free. CD PROJEKT RED’s December 12, 2022 update notes explained that, after signing in to an account, the latest save for each save type was automatically uploaded to the cloud for use on other platforms. The current FAQ confirms cross-progression remains functional, but does not restate every setup detail.

- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.

Do you have to buy The Witcher 3 Remastered again?
Not if you already bought a version in the same platform ecosystem. CD PROJEKT RED’s September 28, 2026 announcement says prior physical or digital owners can upgrade for free within that same ecosystem. A purchase on one platform does not, by itself, entitle you to a free copy on a different ecosystem.
Examples: a qualifying PC purchase applies within the PC ecosystem; a PlayStation purchase applies to PlayStation 5; and an Xbox purchase applies to Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch owners can claim the Remastered version free on Nintendo Switch 2 once it is released there. Check the relevant platform store for the claim or update process and current regional availability; the announcement sets out the entitlement rule, not a universal storefront procedure.
See CD PROJEKT RED’s September 28, 2026 feature announcement for the upgrade terms.

Which platforms support the Remastered upgrade?
The official FAQ lists PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The September 28, 2026 release announcement specifies these PC storefronts:
- Steam
- GOG
- Epic Games Store
- Battle.net
The publisher announced the release for September 29, 2026. Its official Remastered page describes visual and performance upgrades, revised combat and animations, an overhauled skill tree, cross-platform mod support, transmogrification, and an expanded photo mode. These are announced features, not a guarantee of identical performance on every device.
CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered page and feature announcement provide the feature and platform details.
What about PS4 and Xbox One?
The current FAQ does not list PS4 or Xbox One as Remastered upgrade platforms. It says those versions remain otherwise unchanged and that the two expansions are available to download for free. That is distinct from the current-generation Remastered release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

How do you get Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine?
According to the current FAQ, updating the base game installs Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. On PS4 and Xbox One, owners can download the expansions free. Players can still launch either expansion separately from the main menu, and the FAQ says achievements and trophies are unaffected.
Standalone expansion listings have been delisted, and the base-game listing has been replaced by the Complete Edition. If you previously bought an expansion, it remains in your library; its content is patched into the base game. The FAQ says the release includes both expansions for owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

What changed in Remastered?
CD PROJEKT RED describes upgrades to visuals and performance alongside changes to combat, animations, skills, mods, customization, and photo mode. The September 28 announcement names updated textures and models, improved foliage lighting and shading, DirectX 12 rendering, and cross-platform mod support through an in-game mod.io tool.
