There is no official confirmation that a Marvel’s Venom game is in development for PlayStation 6, or that it will use path tracing or “PSSR 3.” Sony’s October 1, 2026 announcement was for Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), an AI-upscaling feature for PS5; it named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, not Venom.
Is Marvel’s Venom coming to PS6?
It has not been confirmed. In September 2026, Push Square reported that leaker NateTheHate2 said the alleged game was “very much still in development upon last check,” but he did not know when it would be announced. Tom’s Hardware Italia likewise reported on September 8 that Sony and Insomniac had not officially confirmed the game or disclosed its platforms. The outlet characterized a possible late-2027 release and PS6 launch as speculative; it also noted that claims such as Eddie Brock being the protagonist lacked independent confirmation. What Sony actually announced about upscaling
Sony’s PlayStation Blog announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) on October 1, 2026, describing it as “a new performance tier of AI upscaling” for PS5. The company said the technology originated from Project Amethyst, its AI graphics collaboration with AMD, and described a streamlined neural-network architecture and an implementation tuned for PS5 performance.

Sony said Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei were being patched that day to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5. The announcement calls the feature QSSR; it does not call it “PSSR 3” or connect it to a Venom game. Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation Blog, October 1, 2026
Insomniac’s Mike Fitzgerald, Head of Technology, said Wolverine would be among the first games to bring QSSR to players. That statement is specifically about Wolverine and does not confirm a Venom project.

Does the rumor establish path tracing or “PSSR 3”?
No. Sony’s QSSR post describes AI-guided image upscaling, not path tracing, and does not announce a feature called “PSSR 3.” It provides no Venom-specific rendering details, resolution target, frame rate, or performance figures. The headline’s technical claims therefore cannot be treated as announced features.
Path tracing is a rendering technique; upscaling reconstructs or enhances an image from a lower-resolution rendering. They are distinct technologies, and evidence for an upscaler does not establish that a game uses path tracing. No official Venom announcement currently establishes either technology for the alleged game.

What is known about the alleged game?
As of October 7, 2026, the reviewed reporting consists of insider claims and speculation rather than a Sony or Insomniac announcement. Earlier rumor coverage also reflected conflicting accounts about cancellation and whether the project might target PS5 or PS6; Gameranx reported in April 2026 that Sony and Marvel had not announced the game. Until Sony or Insomniac confirms the title, its platform, and its technical features, claims about a PS6 release, a late-2027 launch, Eddie Brock as protagonist, path tracing, or a new PSSR version remain unverified. A later official announcement could change the picture; none is established by the statements cited here.
