World of Warcraft has supported real-world charities mainly through limited-time sales of digital pets and related merchandise. Its tribute quests are a separate part of the game’s storytelling: they honor fictional Warcraft characters or explore remembrance, but do not necessarily raise money. Player-run fundraisers form a third, community-organized channel.
Does World of Warcraft have charity quests?
Not in the sense that every tribute-themed quest directs money to a real-world cause. Blizzard’s documented charity campaigns tied donations to purchases of limited-time digital pets and, in some cases, plush toys. By contrast, the Harvest Festival honors fictional heroes in the game, while the Dragonflight quest “Stay Awhile” uses conversation and memory to explore loss. Those story elements are not themselves fundraising campaigns.
It helps to distinguish three things: Blizzard’s shop campaigns, in-world remembrance, and fundraisers organized by players. They may all involve generosity or commemoration, but their organizers and purposes differ.
How WoW charity-pet campaigns worked
Each campaign had its own beneficiary, dates, and donation terms. A past offer is not proof that the pet or plush is currently available, or that the same donation arrangement still applies.

| Campaign | What Blizzard announced | Reported outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Alterac Brew Pup (2013) | Blizzard said 50% of the $10 purchase price would go to Make-A-Wish for purchases through December 31, 2013. The announcement also described a charity bundle with the Enchanted Fey Dragon mount, with $5 still going to Make-A-Wish. | Blizzard later reported that Alterac Brew Pup sales raised $1 million for Make-A-Wish. Blizzard’s thank-you report and the campaign announcement cover the result and original terms. |
| Mischief (2016) | For the campaign through December 31, Blizzard said 100% of the in-game pet’s U.S. $10 purchase price would be donated to Make-A-Wish; regional prices varied. A $25 glow-in-the-dark plush was also included in the campaign through that date. | In February 2017, Blizzard reported that pet and plush sales raised more than $2.5 million USD for Make-A-Wish. The announcement and the follow-up describe the offer and reported total. |
| Dottie (2019) | For purchases through December 31, Blizzard said 100% of the in-game pet’s purchase price would be shared equally between Make-A-Wish and WE. Dottie plush purchases also supported the campaign. The announcement excluded chargebacks, refunds, and VAT or similar taxes, and capped donations from pet and plush sales at $3 million. | The cited announcement describes the terms, not a final fundraising total. Blizzard’s campaign notice. |
| Shadow | Blizzard’s community feature describes sales of the Shadow in-game pet and plush as supporting American Red Cross Disaster Relief and the IFRC Disaster Relief Emergency Fund. | The feature reported more than $1.8 million raised for the two named beneficiaries. Blizzard’s 2018 community feature. |
The distinction between a pledge and a result matters: a campaign announcement sets out what Blizzard intends to donate under specified terms, while a later report gives a retrospective total. The historical figures above describe those campaigns, not a standing donation program.
What do WoW’s tribute and remembrance quests honor?
Harvest Festival: fictional heroes
In the Harvest Festival, the Alliance honors Uther the Lightbringer by lighting a candle at his tomb in the Western Plaguelands. The Horde honors Grommash Hellscream by leaving spirits at the Hellscream Memorial in Demon Fall Canyon, Ashenvale. The event also describes feasts outside Ironforge and Orgrimmar for fallen heroes, along with race-specific tributes through the quest “Honoring a Hero.” These are remembrances within Warcraft’s fiction, not evidence of a real-world charity drive. Blizzard’s Harvest Festival announcement gives event details; its schedule is specific to that event year.

“Stay Awhile”: grief and memory in the story
A January 30, 2023 interview with the quest design team explains that Veritistrasz’s story began with the idea of an old red dragon returning home and remembering a black dragon friend from before that friend’s corruption. The designers made it a conversational, non-combat quest at Ruby Lifeshrine and chose not to make the player “fix” the character’s emotional state. Blizzard described it as “a quiet moment of remembrance.” The quest uses grief and memory as narrative themes; it does not fund a real-world cause. Read Blizzard’s quest-design interview.
The available official examples do not amount to a comprehensive catalog of every WoW tribute to a real-world person. The Harvest Festival examples above honor fictional characters, and “Stay Awhile” is a fictional story about loss and remembrance.

How player-run fundraisers differ from Blizzard campaigns
WoW players have also organized charity events independently of Blizzard’s shop campaigns. In a 2018 feature, Blizzard said players had donated over $15 million to charitable causes over the years. That is Blizzard’s figure as reported in 2018, not a current lifetime total.
The same feature described three community events: Running of the Gnomes supported Cleveland Clinic and the creators of the Tuohy Vaccine; Running of the Trolls raised awareness and money for the Trevor Project; and the Icecrown Challenge supported the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Blizzard reported that the events had a combined goal of $9,000 and raised over $22,000 for their respective charities. Those are the three events’ figures in the 2018 feature, not a tally of Blizzard shop sales. Blizzard’s article describes the events and its broader community figures.

Are WoW charity pets or plush toys still available?
The cited campaigns were time-limited, and their announcements do not establish current shop or retailer inventory. Check the live in-game shop or an official Blizzard store listing for present availability, and read the current campaign terms before assuming a purchase benefits a charity. Historical campaign pages explain what happened at the time; they are not current donation offers.
