In Wittle Defender, make Campaign progress first, invest in one main damage dealer, and add a small number of compatible support heroes. Save major gear spending for when gear becomes relevant to your account. Unlocks, hero availability, and seasonal rules can change, so check the current game client before relying on specific thresholds or recommendations.
What kind of game is Wittle Defender?
Apple’s App Store listing describes Wittle Defender as a combination of tower defense, roguelike, and card strategy. It is free to download with in-app purchases, supports auto-battle, and has players assemble a squad of heroes with varied skills. The listing names HABBY as the developer.
How should a beginner progress?
A practical early plan is to advance the Campaign to open systems, focus upgrade resources on one carry, and avoid spending heavily on equipment before your account reaches that stage. The recommendations below come mainly from WAI, an independent guide rather than the developer; treat specific heroes and unlock conditions as version-sensitive advice.
- Push the Campaign. WAI recommends prioritizing Campaign progress because it opens other systems. It also advises joining a guild early, completing daily quests and available daily activities, and spending stamina rather than allowing it to stay capped. Confirm which activities are available in your current client.
- Choose one main damage dealer. Concentrate star-up resources on a primary carry instead of distributing them across the whole roster. Add one or two supports around that hero as your needs become clearer.
- Pair heroes for chain skills. WAI recommends compatible heroes of the same element to enable chain skills. Its accessible fire examples are Scarlet Reaper with Fiery Vanguard, or Cheffy with Fiery Vanguard. Hero availability and balance can change, so check what you can currently obtain and whether the pairing still works well.
- Upgrade the carry’s skills first. WAI’s general priority is the main damage dealer’s ultimate, then active abilities, with passive skills later in early progression. This is guide advice, not an official upgrade rule.
- Wait before making major gear investments. WAI places the gear unlock after clearing Legendary III on the Growth Path and associates that point with roughly Chapter 80 or later. Treat both the condition and chapter estimate as version-sensitive; check the in-game unlock prompt. Earlier on, WAI’s advice is to focus on levels and stars.
- Move to runes and deeper systems when they open. WAI says runes unlock after six days of play and Chapter 27, with rune farming in Runic Plains. These are specific guide-reported thresholds and location, not permanent guarantees; verify them in the current game.
Which heroes should you build?
There is no timeless roster recommendation established here. Instead, compare candidates by how they fit your current team and progression stage:
#1 Best Overall

- UPDATED GRAPHICS, COMPONENTS, AND GAMEPLAY: This 5th edition features stunning artwork, redesigned figures, and more streamlined and accessible gameplay that lets both newcomers and fans jump into a game
- 12 DETAILED CHARACTER FIGURES: Play as one of 12 powerful characters, including a Prophetess, Wizard, and Thief. Includes 12 Character figures and matching cards that reveal a character’s unique ability
- FIND THE TALISMAN: Set forth on a dangerous journey—race to be the first to acquire a Talisman, reach the Crown of Command, and vanquish its guardian dragon to win
- TRAVEL THROUGH A MAGICAL LAND: The generously sized board depicts the land of Talisman, 3 regions of enchanted locations. The board changes as players layer on Adventure cards with more places to encounter
- Role: Identify the hero you want to carry damage, then choose supports or a healer that address your team’s needs.
- Chain-skill compatibility: Check whether the hero’s element and available partners enable the chain skills you intend to use.
- Build and acquisition cost: Consider how much investment the hero needs and whether you can realistically acquire or upgrade them. WAI describes Seraph as an early healer obtainable through in-game markets, but availability should be checked in the current client.
- Content you are tackling: A useful early team is one you can build now for your current Campaign progress, not a theoretical lineup that depends on later systems or uncertain availability.
Because WAI’s examples and market guidance are third-party recommendations, use them as starting points rather than a guaranteed best-in-slot list.
What should you upgrade first?
Keep early investment concentrated: develop your main damage dealer, then improve the support heroes that make that carry work. For the carry’s skills, WAI suggests the ultimate first, active abilities next, and passive skills later in early progression. Avoid spreading scarce star-up resources evenly across every hero just because they are available.

When should you start upgrading gear?
WAI advises delaying substantial gear spending until the gear system becomes relevant, reporting that it opens after Legendary III on the Growth Path and placing the transition at roughly Chapter 80 or later. These are reported guide thresholds, not confirmed permanent rules; use the current in-game unlock conditions.
Once gear matters, judge an upgrade by the stat benefit for the hero’s role, how soon the item may be replaced, and the source and cost of the required materials. WAI’s gear guide says weapons and rings provide much of the attack benefit; it identifies Gear Enchanite for upgrades and Azure Essence for refinement, and notes that Boar Hunt contributes gear and materials. These are later-game considerations, not a reason to divert early resources from building your core heroes.

- Join forces to help Frodo make his way across Middle Earth and complete his quest to destroy the one ring
- In this cooperative strategy game players will roll dice and draw cards to try and avoid the ring wraiths and save Middle Earth
- Plays up to four players or can be a solo adventure
- Playtime is approximately 50 minutes
- Immerses you in the world of Tolkein
WAI also says gear investment applies to the slot rather than to a temporary item, so replacing a piece does not erase the slot investment. Check the current gear interface before spending, especially if its rules have changed.

Seasonal progression is distinct from permanent account development. Apple’s App Store version notes describe the Unknown Waters seasonal PvE mode and a Season Gear system with 12 slots. In that version-note description, some season-only stats disappear at season end while normal stats persist; the same notes specify an account age of 30 days and Main Story Stage 75 for the new seasonal gameplay. These are version-specific notes, not universal or permanent beginner unlock rules. Check the live client for the current season’s entry requirements and which progress or stats will carry over.
