There is no single authoritative ranking of Waven characters. Guides disagree, and a tier label cannot account for every mode, build, team, or player preference. Pocket Gamer’s October 5, 2026 list (version 0.23.7) ranks several heroes differently from Mobi.gg’s list, marked updated July 28, 2026. Use those rankings as dated editorial opinions, then choose a hero by the mechanics you enjoy and the role you want to play.
How the published Waven rankings compare
The lists below are a snapshot of two guides, not an official balance ranking or a head-to-head performance study. Mobi.gg’s page is marked updated July 28, 2026, while its heading says “September 2026”; Pocket Gamer’s page is marked updated October 5, 2026 and version 0.23.7.
Pocket Gamer’s list
| Tier | Characters listed |
|---|---|
| SS | Flamboyant Kasai; Hioplite Paladir; Arcarius Paladir; Brutal Fairblade; Varaclus Blade |
| S | Shiru Shaden; Sicarius Paladin; Glaive Stalaktoss; Scalpel Apostruker; Astramantis; Bouvalor Orok |
| A | Amber Tamashi; Blunderbust; Ken Kartana; Jikan Sandiaton |
| B | Spectral Armabladegeddon; Koroko Brush; Okus Piktus Paladir; Pikuxala Hand; Tako Synchronizater; Premium Catalyst; Gurpapa Regulator |
| C | Dephasing Gem; Piven Bow; Orishi Shears; Buneblade; Surokan Shiv; Shugen Flayer |
| D | Amurai Blade; Zandiezer Zo |
The names and tier placements follow Pocket Gamer’s Waven tier list, including its spelling “Koroko Brush” and its entry “Premium Catalyst.” Check the in-game names if you are using this list to look up a hero. Pocket Gamer highlights Flamboyant Kasai for generating a same-element Sword Aura when applying an elemental state, and Glaive Stalaktoss for dephasing an opponent after attacking. These are the guide’s explanations for those placements, not official evaluations.
Mobi.gg’s list and the disagreement
Mobi.gg places Xelor Pikuxala Hand, Iop Brutal Fairblade, Cra Buneblade, and Xelor Pramium Catalyst in S tier in its tier list. That differs from Pocket Gamer: Pikuxala Hand and Buneblade are in Pocket Gamer’s B and C tiers respectively. Mobi.gg does not give a shared quantified method in the reviewed page that resolves the difference. Treat each tier as that guide’s judgment, and attach its date whenever you cite it.

A tier list can still help narrow a shortlist, especially if you want a guide’s view of relative performance. Pocket Gamer says many characters remain viable and frames lower tiers in terms of relative speed clearing content and current performance. That is not the same as proving that lower-ranked heroes cannot complete content or that an SS pick is best for every mode.
Choose by mechanics and team role
Waven’s official Google Play listing describes more than 30 class-and-hero combinations and 300 available spells (Ankama, 2026 listing). It also presents tactical solo or duo/trio combat in which players choose equipment and companions for each fight. Those store-listing figures indicate variety; they do not establish which combinations or teams perform best.

Mobi.gg’s class-choice guide offers examples of different play patterns. Its descriptions are useful for deciding what sounds enjoyable, but they are guide descriptions rather than independently tested comparisons.
If you enjoy mobility and positioning
Mobi.gg describes Xelor Pikuxala Hand as using teleportation for damage and avoidance, while noting it can be difficult for beginners to optimize. Consider whether you enjoy judging where to move and when to engage, rather than choosing it only because a tier list places it high or low.

If you enjoy sequencing and combos
The guide describes Cra Buneblade as drawing spells and rewarding sequencing and combo knowledge. That style may appeal if you like planning a spell order; it may feel less natural if you prefer straightforward turns.
If you enjoy elemental setup
Mobi.gg describes Xelor Zinetritos Paladir as building around elemental states, spell elements, and positioning, and calls it technically demanding. That points to a more setup-oriented option for players who like coordinating effects and placement.

Questions to ask before settling on a hero
- Damage pattern: Do you want direct attacks, repeated effects, or a payoff that depends on setup and combos?
- Positioning: Do you enjoy teleportation and managing distance, or would you rather focus on another part of combat?
- Execution: How much spell-order planning, elemental-state setup, and resource management do you want each turn?
- Team fit: Which companion effects or allied roles complement the hero’s mechanics in the encounters you play?
- Mode and ruleset: Does the ranking apply to PvE or PvP, and does it match the game version you are playing?
- Personal priority: Are you aiming for speed, safety, complexity, or room to experiment?
The available sources do not establish a verified best team lineup or comparative team win rates. Use synergy as a practical question about complementary mechanics, not as a claim that a particular combination is proven optimal. Mobi.gg also says performance can depend on skill, equipment, situation, and personal affinity.

Ankama’s August 5, 2025 Community Update #2 described a substantial redesign. It said: “In the new version of WAVEN, each hero has four unique spells and a passive that is unique to them.” The update also described shared spells and prebuilt decks for competitive modes, including a limited, random selection of decks for each match.
Best Value
- Relive the '90s – Immerse yourself in the golden age of 16-bit video games, competing to become the ultimate Video Game Champion.
- Competitive Strategy – Manage your time and resources between earning money, renting games, studying, and mastering video game strategies.
- For 2-5 Players – Perfect for game nights with friends, where 2-5 players can compete in a 50-90 minute gaming session.
- 90s Nostalgia – Beg your parents for new games, buy magazines, and play your favorite titles – all wrapped in retro vibes!
- Great Replayability – With unique strategic decisions, each game brings fresh challenges and new paths to victory.
Those details were announced plans. The official pages reviewed here do not confirm whether the redesign had shipped by October 7, 2026, so do not assume that the planned spell and deck systems are live. If you use an older build guide or tier list, check whether its assumptions match your current in-game version. A change to spell access or competitive deck selection could make older system-specific advice less applicable.
How to use a tier list without letting it choose for you
- Check the date and version. Pocket Gamer’s ranking is marked October 5, 2026 and version 0.23.7; Mobi.gg’s page is marked July 28, 2026, despite a “September 2026” heading.
- Confirm the mode and build context. A ranking that does not clearly match your PvE or PvP goals, equipment, or current ruleset is only a starting point.
- Compare the mechanics behind the placement. Look for explanations such as Kasai’s same-element Sword Aura interaction or the mobility and setup patterns described for the Xelors.
- Try a shortlist that fits your preferences. Compare how much positioning, sequencing, or setup you enjoy before investing in a hero solely because of its tier.
- Revisit rankings after updates. Balance and available systems can change, so an older guide should not be treated as a permanent verdict.
Ankama’s Steam listing describes Waven as free-to-play on PC, Mac, smartphone, and tablet, with PvE and PvP as well as spells, companions, equipment, and deck customization. Those platform and feature details come from the official Steam listing; they do not supply comparative character results.
