There is no reliable way to authenticate a Pokémon card from an Amazon listing alone. Use listing details only as context, treat a dramatically low price as a warning, and inspect the product and packaging if it arrives. Pokémon says counterfeit cards may show through under a bright light and recommends comparing packaging with official product images—but it also warns that fake booster packs can be difficult to distinguish.
What an Amazon listing can—and cannot—tell you
Amazon prohibits counterfeit sales and says sellers and suppliers are responsible for the authenticity of products; it removes listings it identifies as suspicious. That policy is not proof that any particular offer is genuine. Amazon’s anti-counterfeiting policy describes platform rules, not a buyer-facing authentication test.
An Amazon product page may have more than one offer. Check the specific offer’s seller and stated item condition as context, but do not treat a seller name, account tenure, reviews, sales rank, fulfillment label, or polished photos as proof of authenticity. The official guidance available does not validate those listing signals as ways to authenticate Pokémon cards.
Screen the offer before you buy
Be wary of a dramatically low price
Pokémon warns that a booster pack priced dramatically below its suggested retail price is a near-certain counterfeit warning. There is no official percentage threshold, so do not rely on a fixed discount cutoff. A low price is a reason to pause or choose another offer, not a test that proves a product is fake.

Compare packaging with official product images
Look for obvious differences between the pictured packaging and images of the same official Pokémon product. Pokémon says familiarity with official deck packaging can help identify obvious knockoffs. A matching listing photo is not conclusive: a product page’s images do not authenticate the specific item an offer will send.
Do not infer authenticity from a country name alone
Pokémon says printing origin varies by language: English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish cards are printed in the United States or European Union; Portuguese cards in Brazil; and Japanese and additional language cards in Japan. The origin can be checked on product wrapping. Because legitimate origins differ, a country name by itself is not grounds to call a card counterfeit. See Pokémon’s country-of-origin guidance.

Inspect the cards and packaging after delivery
Try the bright-light check as a clue
Pokémon says counterfeit cards are often easy to see through when held up to a bright light. Hold the card toward a bright light and note whether it appears unusually translucent. This is a quick screening clue, not a complete authentication protocol: passing the check does not certify a card as genuine, and an appearance that raises concern should be assessed alongside other evidence.
Compare the physical packaging
Check the wrapping and packaging against official images of the same product, including the product name and visible design details. Pokémon specifically cautions that fake booster packs can be difficult to distinguish from real ones, so a convincing appearance should not be treated as confirmation.

Ask a specialist shop for another opinion
Pokémon recommends asking a trading-card specialist shop to evaluate a suspect card. An in-person assessment can add useful expertise, but it is a second opinion rather than an infallible test—especially if the shop cannot inspect the relevant item or packaging directly.
What Amazon Transparency can verify
Amazon’s Transparency program lets buyers scan Amazon-issued Transparency codes on products enrolled in the program, using the Amazon Shopping app or the Transparency app. Use this only if the package visibly carries a code and you can confirm that the product is enrolled. The program information does not establish that Pokémon TCG cards, or any particular listing, participate. Amazon Transparency is therefore not a general Pokémon card authentication method.

If you suspect the order is counterfeit
- Keep the evidence. Save the order details and listing information, and photograph the cards and packaging before disposing of anything.
- Check the order’s current support and return options. Contact Amazon through the order support or return flow and follow the options shown for that purchase. Amazon says return eligibility varies by product, and some Final Sale items can include trading card games; do not assume a return or refund is guaranteed. See the Amazon Return Policy.
- Understand the third-party purchase protection limits. Amazon’s A-to-z Guarantee applies to eligible third-party orders, not automatically to every purchase or every authenticity concern. Check the current terms and your order’s eligibility at Amazon’s A-to-z Guarantee.
- Report the suspected product to Pokémon. Pokémon Support’s request form accepts a counterfeit product description, retailer address, website link, and attachments. Include the evidence you saved.
Where to buy with lower risk
For buyers in the United States and Canada, Pokémon identifies Pokémon Center and its retail locator as routes to official products. Its guidance does not endorse Amazon sellers individually. Use the official Pokémon retail guidance to find those routes.
