Track each clue with the puzzle context it came from, what you observed, what rule you suspect, and what remains unresolved. That separation matters in Order of the Sinking Star: Thekla describes more than 1,000 interconnected puzzles across four worlds, while the Steam listing says players can revisit worlds and challenges and learn from notes collected in-game. This guide is spoiler-light and based on pre-release information; the planned release date is October 8, 2026.
What to record when a puzzle stops you
Use a short note that lets you pick up the thread later without treating a guess as a proven rule. This is a suggested method for your own notes, not a documented in-game tracking feature.

Context | observed behavior | possible rule | confidence | unresolved question | revisit when
- Context: Name the world, location, puzzle, or another detail that will help you find the scene again.
- Observed behavior: Write what actually happened, such as what changed after a move or interaction. Keep this separate from your explanation of why it happened.
- Possible rule: State the mechanic you think the observation suggests. Mark it tentative until another puzzle or interaction supports it.
- Confidence: Use “confirmed” only when you have seen the rule work reliably; otherwise label it “tentative.”
- Unresolved question: Note the obstacle or missing condition that prevented progress.
- Revisit when: Write what new character, ability, or information might make the puzzle worth another look.
Keep clues attached to their world and mechanics
The official site describes four distinct worlds with their own mechanics, characters, and stories that eventually collide. A clue detached from its original setting can be difficult to interpret later, so make the context the first part of every note. The game’s announced puzzle foundations also draw on different rule sets: stone-skipping paths, reflection-swapping islands, beam-focused grid puzzles, and fantasy Sokoban games with distinct movement and pushing mechanics. These descriptions explain why it is useful to sort clues by system; they do not establish that a particular puzzle depends on another one.

If a note seems to conflict with a new observation, preserve both and check whether they came from different worlds or mechanics before revising your rule. Treat a pattern from one system as evidence about that system, not an automatic rule for the whole game.
Separate what you saw from what you inferred
A useful record has two layers: the event and your interpretation. For example, note the specific change you observed first, then write a separate tentative explanation. This makes it easier to revise a theory when a later puzzle adds context, rather than accidentally remembering your interpretation as something the game directly demonstrated.

Keep open questions visible, too. “Could not get past this obstacle” is less useful than a note naming the condition you could not meet or the interaction you have not tested. A concise question makes a return visit more purposeful.
Revisit earlier puzzles when new abilities or context appear
The Steam description says players can explore at their own pace and revisit worlds and challenges. When you gain new information, check your earlier notes for puzzles whose unresolved question matches it. The July 21, 2026 PlayStation Blog hands-on preview describes characters with their own puzzle-driven abilities and characters from different worlds interacting to solve puzzles they could not solve alone. That makes character abilities and combinations worth considering when you return to a puzzle, but the preview is not a complete rule list for the finished game.

Use collected in-game notes as evidence, not a guaranteed task list
The Steam description says players learn through gameplay and notes they collect. That supports checking collected notes for clues, but it does not establish that the game automatically logs every unsolved puzzle or gives you a complete list of objectives. If you need to remember why you left a challenge, keep your own brief return note rather than assuming the game will track that question for you.
How to organize a growing clue collection
As your notes accumulate, compare observations using a few consistent labels: the world or system involved, any character ability that appears relevant, whether a statement is observed or inferred, and whether the puzzle is currently solvable or worth revisiting. These are practical categories, not official game terminology.

The official site calls the game’s scale “more than one thousand” interconnected, hand-crafted puzzles across four worlds. It also says “More than 500 hours await the most dedicated puzzle solvers”; that is the publisher’s promotional description, not an independently measured playtime estimate. With that stated scale, a small amount of structure can help you find your own observations again without turning every puzzle into a full walkthrough.

At the time of the official listings consulted for this guide, Order of the Sinking Star was planned for October 8, 2026. The official site announces Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. Because the release was scheduled for the day after the listings were checked, this is a pre-release guide—not a report from a full-release playthrough. Detailed progress-tracking features and specific clue dependencies are not established by the cited materials.
