DroidDeck can run Steam’s Linux ARM64 client in Big Picture mode on some Android handhelds, but compatibility depends on the device’s Android version and GPU. To get started, install the APK from the project’s official GitHub Releases, install DroidDeck’s Linux runtime, adjust Android’s child-process setting if available, and choose the controller mode in Steam’s Touch & controls settings.
Check whether your Android handheld is supported
DroidDeck’s project README specifies Android 9 or newer and a supported Qualcomm Adreno GPU: Adreno 730 or newer, or an Adreno 8-series GPU. It lists Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 as unsupported. These are requirements stated by the project, not independently verified compatibility results for every device.
The README says root access is not required. Before downloading, check your handheld’s Android version and GPU; a recent Android version alone does not establish compatibility.
Download and install DroidDeck
The project says it has no standalone website and warns against download links from sites claiming to represent the DroidDeck team. Use the official DroidDeck GitHub Releases page for the APK.

- Download the APK. Open the official Releases page and choose the release asset provided by the project.
- Install the APK. Open the downloaded file on your Android device and follow Android’s installation prompts. If Android asks whether to allow installation from that source, enable it for the app you used to open the APK, then return to the installer.
- Install the Linux runtime in DroidDeck. Launch DroidDeck and use its runtime installation option. The project estimates about 3 GB for the Linux runtime.
- Press Play and sign in to Steam. Steam downloads on its first launch. Allow time and storage for that download in addition to the runtime.
The README estimates a further 1.1 GB for Desktop & apps, the optional component it describes for desktop and emulator use. Install that component if you want those uses; it is not part of the basic sequence of installing the runtime and launching Steam.
Adjust Android’s child-process setting before Steam’s first launch
DroidDeck’s README says to turn off Restrict child processes in Android Developer options before launching Steam. Android’s exact settings layout can vary by device, and Developer options may need to be enabled before the setting is visible.

For Android 12 and 13 devices where the option is absent from Developer options, the project says the first Steam launch presents a Fix it for me button to help automate setup. That guidance is specific to the versions named by the project; it does not establish the same workaround for other Android versions or device builds.
Select Steam Deck controller mode in Steam
DroidDeck’s releases describe a software-emulated Steam Deck controller mode for Steam sessions. The Steam client sees the pad as a Steam Deck controller, with a Quick Access button and input from the Android device’s gyro. Games receive Steam Input virtual pads, so Steam Input layouts can be used. On a dual-screen handheld, the second screen can provide the Deck-style back grips and trackpads.

This is DroidDeck’s emulated control mode, not a documented process for pairing a separate Steam Deck or Bluetooth controller.
The repository’s progress log documents controller selection at Steam page → Touch & controls → Controller. The labels may differ by app or Steam version, so look under Steam’s Touch & controls settings if the path is not exact.

- Open Steam in DroidDeck and go to the Steam page.
- Open Touch & controls, then Controller.
- Select Steam Deck controller for the Deck-oriented features described above, or Xbox 360 controller if you want that alternative mode.
Choose between the two documented controller modes

The project material does not establish game-by-game compatibility or guarantee that every title will behave identically in either mode. If a game does not respond as expected, check its Steam Input layout and try the other documented controller mode.
