If your controller is not working in DroidDeck on Android, first find where input stops: in Android, DroidDeck’s menus, Steam’s interface, or a particular game. If Steam responds but a game ignores or misreads controls, compare DroidDeck’s two controller modes at Steam page → Touch & controls → Controller. Steam Deck controller is the default; Xbox 360 controller is the documented alternative to try when a game’s axis layout is wrong, especially with Steam Input disabled. If neither mode helps, save the session logs for a reproducible report.
Find where the controller input stops
Controller input passes through several layers: the physical controller and Android, DroidDeck, Steam’s controller interface and Steam Input, and finally the game. The layer that fails determines which troubleshooting step is useful.
- Nothing responds in Android: The problem may be before DroidDeck. Android’s compatibility specification says HID events must map to Android InputEvent constants, but that Android-level requirement does not establish that Steam or a particular game will receive the controls it expects. See the Android 11 Compatibility Definition for that general HID-to-input principle.
- DroidDeck menus do not respond: Note whether the controller is connected and whether input works elsewhere in Android. This helps distinguish an Android-level issue from one that begins in a Steam session.
- Steam navigation works, but a game ignores input: Check the selected controller mode and how the game handles Steam Input before changing Android pairing settings.
- One game responds, but buttons or axes are wrong: Compare the two controller modes in DroidDeck. A game-specific mismatch does not by itself show that the physical controller is faulty.
This diagnostic sequence is a practical way to isolate the fault, not a universal test published by the project.
Compare DroidDeck’s controller modes
During a Steam session, open Steam page → Touch & controls → Controller. DroidDeck’s progress log identifies Steam Deck controller as the default and Xbox 360 controller as the alternative. Menu wording can differ between builds, so use the labels in your installed version. The project documents the choices as follows:

| Mode | What the project documents | When to try it |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Deck controller | The default mode. The release notes say games in Steam sessions receive Steam Input virtual pads through this representation. | Use it if you have not changed the setting or want Steam Input layouts. |
| Xbox 360 controller | An alternative mode. The release notes describe its axis layout as appropriate for games with Steam Input turned off. | Compare it when a game’s buttons or axes seem wrong, particularly if Steam Input is disabled. It is an alternative to test, not a guaranteed fix. |
These behaviors are described in the project’s release notes and official repository.
Check how Steam Input and the game interact
The Steam Deck controller route is documented as exposing Steam Input virtual pads to games during Steam sessions. The result can therefore depend on both DroidDeck’s selected mode and the game’s Steam Input configuration. If Steam can navigate but a game cannot, test the other DroidDeck mode before assuming the controller needs to be paired again or replaced.

- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Try one change at a time and check the same game after each change. If the game has a Steam Input setting, note whether it is enabled or disabled; the project specifically identifies the Xbox 360 mode’s axis layout as an option for games with Steam Input off. The available documentation does not establish a mode that fixes every game or controller.
Save logs and report the issue
If switching modes does not resolve the problem, reproduce it and preserve the session folder. DroidDeck’s README asks bug reporters to attach the folder from Download/DroidDeck; the release notes say shared logs include controller and touch-mode details.

Submit through the official issue tracker or a community channel linked from the project. Include enough context to make the failure repeatable:
- Device model and Android version
- DroidDeck build and the selected controller mode
- How the controller is connected
- Whether Android menus, DroidDeck menus, and Steam navigation respond
- Whether the problem affects every game or only a specific title, and whether Steam Input is enabled for that game
- The session folder from Download/DroidDeck

Official project documentation does not provide a comprehensive compatibility matrix covering controllers, Android versions, and individual games. The Android 11 compatibility document is a standards reference for HID input mapping, not evidence that a particular DroidDeck build or game will behave a certain way.
