A team can lose once in the playoffs and remain in contention; its second loss eliminates it. Playoffs are scheduled for October 7–18, 2026. Riot’s live schedule is the place to confirm current pairings and match start times.
How teams qualify for the playoffs
Champions begins with 16 teams split across four GSL groups. Each group sends its top two teams into the playoff stage, creating an eight-team field. Riot’s 2026 event guide describes the tournament stages, while the official tournament handbook sets out the format.
How the eight-team playoff bracket works
The playoffs use double elimination. Teams that lose in the upper bracket move to the lower bracket rather than leaving the tournament immediately. A second playoff loss eliminates a team. The lower-bracket survivor then meets the upper-bracket survivor in the grand final.
Use Riot’s official Champions page to see the live bracket and current pairings; the handbook establishes the format, but the bracket display is the reference for who plays whom and how teams progress round by round.
