Choose DroidDeck if your Android device meets its hardware requirements and you want to run Steam games locally. Choose Moonlight if you have a gaming PC and want to stream its games, apps, or desktop to Android. They solve different problems: DroidDeck runs games on the handheld; Moonlight sends a stream from another computer.
How DroidDeck and Moonlight differ

Check whether your Android device can run DroidDeck
The current Droid-Deck README specifies Android 9 or newer and an Adreno 730 or newer, or Adreno 8xx GPU. It lists Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 as unsupported. These are project-stated requirements, not an independent compatibility test, and satisfying them does not guarantee that a particular game will run well. Droid-Deck README
The README estimates about 3 GB for the runtime and another 1.1 GB for the desktop and emulators. Treat those as project estimates when checking available storage. DroidDeck does not require root, but installation and configuration are more involved than installing a typical Android game.

DroidDeck installation and Steam setup
- Install the APK: download it from the project’s Releases page.
- Install the Linux runtime: follow the project setup to add the runtime required for Steam and compatible games.
- Adjust Android’s process setting: before launching Steam, turn off Restrict child processes in Developer options. The README describes a “Fix it for me” prompt for Android 12 and 13 when the setting is unavailable.
The project describes features including Steam Big Picture, a handheld-oriented library view, Android-app support, dual-screen features, a Linux desktop, and emulators. What Moonlight needs for a good stream
Moonlight is an Android client for streaming games, programs, or a full desktop from a PC, over a local network or the internet. The Android app listing describes GeForce Experience for NVIDIA hosts or Sunshine for hosts using any GPU, so Moonlight is not limited to NVIDIA hardware. Moonlight on Google Play

For a more reliable setup, the listing recommends a mid- to high-end wireless router, a strong connection to the Android device—with 5 GHz Wi-Fi highly recommended—and Ethernet between the host PC and router. A weak or congested wireless connection can undermine the experience even if the PC itself is powerful. The listing says streaming performance varies by client and network.

Which one should you choose?
Choose DroidDeck when you want local play
- Your Android device meets the project’s stated Android and GPU requirements.
- You want games to run on the handheld rather than depend on a live connection to your PC.
- You are willing to allocate storage and work through runtime and Android settings setup.
Choose Moonlight when you already have a gaming PC
- You want to play the PC’s installed games or use its desktop from an Android device.
- Your host PC can run the games, and you can configure GeForce Experience or Sunshine.
- Your network can deliver a strong connection to the Android client, ideally with the PC wired to the router.
If neither set of prerequisites fits, neither is a universal workaround: DroidDeck’s compatibility depends on the Android hardware and game, while Moonlight needs a host computer and suitable network conditions.

There is no established universal performance winner. Moonlight’s streaming quality depends on the client and network, while DroidDeck’s compatibility and performance vary by Android device, and its project documentation says hardware validation is limited. The available official product materials do not provide a controlled side-by-side benchmark, so there is no supported basis here for quoting comparative FPS, latency, or a game-compatibility rate.
