To get comfortable, open a hero’s How to play section and choose Training. Account levels, hero unlocks, and hero talents use separate progression systems, so learning what each resource does will help you make better early choices.
How do you block attacks?
NEKKI’s help center says blocking happens automatically when you stop moving and stop tapping buttons for a few seconds. You do not need to hold a dedicated block button according to that guidance. See NEKKI’s blocking instructions.
Against repeated attacks, NEKKI recommends blocking, then answering with a quick attack. The help center notes that kicks are fast and that some heroes also have quick normal attacks. It gives Azuma against Shang and Ironclad against Yukka as examples; treat these as illustrative matchups from the support article, not as universal counter advice or a current tier list. Where is Training mode?
- Tap any hero.
- Open How to play.
- Select Training.
This is the route in NEKKI’s help article. Use Training to learn a hero’s movement, attacks, and abilities before experimenting in ranked matches. The exact screen labels can change with updates.

The official guidance cited here does not provide a complete, current button-by-button map for every device, gamepad, or game version. For specific attack inputs, follow the in-game tutorial and Training prompts rather than relying on a control layout that may not match your setup. NEKKI describes the game as using classic combat controls, but that does not establish support for a particular controller model.
What does the shadow-energy bar do?
Shadow energy is a combat meter, not an entry ticket for starting matches according to the cited support information. NEKKI says: “The bar fills up if you deal and receive damage in a fight and the character’s talents also affect the filling.” Read the full explanation in NEKKI’s shadow-energy help article. It does not describe a battle quota or a wait-for-energy system.

How does progression work?
There are separate tracks for your account level, access to heroes, and each hero’s talents. Account XP is earned by leveling heroes you have unlocked; acquiring and unlocking talents instead involves hero shards. Keeping those tracks distinct helps avoid spending a resource under the wrong assumption.
Increase your account level
NEKKI says to level currently unlocked heroes using gold and Hero cards, which are awarded through in-game activities. Its account-level help page also says each account-level increase raises all heroes’ stats by 10%. Because that numerical value appears in a help article that may not reflect the latest game balance, check the current in-game progression screen if the exact increase matters to you. Get new heroes
NEKKI’s help center says 10 shards unlock a hero. It lists chests, events, tournaments, marathons, and store options as ways to obtain heroes or their shards, and says every hero can be earned for free. Some heroes also become available at certain Arena levels. These are the routes described by the publisher; availability and interface details can change. See NEKKI’s hero acquisition guide.
Unlock hero talents
Talent unlocks use shards for that hero; leveling the hero alone does not unlock talents. NEKKI says talent shards become available after you unlock the hero, and that surplus shards convert to gold once all of that hero’s talents are unlocked. The details are in NEKKI’s talent-unlock guide.

What should a beginner focus on first?
- Try several heroes in Training. Compare their weapons, attack pace, skills, and talents; NEKKI describes these as distinct hero characteristics.
- Choose a small group you enjoy using. Online multiplayer is built around teams of three heroes, so consider how each pick’s style and abilities fit beside the other two rather than searching for a single universally best beginner hero.
- Use gold and Hero cards to level heroes you have unlocked. That is the account-level route described by NEKKI.
- Spend shard-based talent progress on heroes you actually play. Talent unlocks are a separate system from hero levels, so plan them around your preferred roster.
This is a practical route based on the publisher’s described systems, not a claim that one hero or upgrade order is objectively optimal. Google Play describes story mode, online team battles, offline bot battles, friend matches, and tournaments; those give you different ways to play while building familiarity.
