To measure a Genshin Impact team rotation fairly, repeat it against the same enemy under the same team, build, buff, aura, and timing conditions. Record damage hit by hit, including reactions and triggered attacks, then compare totals over an identical time window. Keep in-game results separate from calculator estimates: a modeled rotation only reflects the events and assumptions entered.

Set up a fair comparison

Choose one enemy and a fixed test window, then keep its combat state as similar as possible between runs. Enemy resistance and elemental auras affect damage and reaction outcomes, so changing targets or starting conditions can undermine the comparison. There is no single target that is universally correct for every team. The Genshin Impact Wiki damage reference explains relevant damage and resistance behavior, while HoYoWiki’s elemental reaction reference describes reaction types.

For variants you want to compare, hold the setup constant:

  • Use the same characters, equipment, levels, and talents.
  • Keep buffs and starting energy consistent.
  • Use the same target, comparable enemy state, and test duration.
  • Keep the intended aura and reaction conditions as consistent as practical.

These controls make the comparison useful; they do not establish that any particular build is optimal.

Record the rotation as events

Write down the sequence before testing, then track what actually happens during the run. Include casts and individual hits, not just character swaps or burst activations. Also record follow-up damage caused by another character’s attack, such as an effect that triggers when the active character lands a hit.

For each meaningful damage instance, note the character, ability or attack, damage number, and whether a reaction occurred. Keep burst hits and repeated damage instances distinguishable when practical. Add damage only across the same fixed time window for every run; otherwise, a longer rotation can appear stronger simply because it had more time to deal damage.

Interpret reaction damage correctly

Elemental reactions do not all affect damage in the same way. HoYoWiki groups damage reactions into three broad types:

  • Amplifying: Vaporize and Melt amplify the hit that triggers the reaction.
  • Additive: Aggravate and Spread add damage to the triggering attack.
  • Transformative: These reactions produce a separate damage instance with different scaling behavior.

For transformative reactions, damage depends on the triggering character’s level and Elemental Mastery, as well as enemy resistance. It does not use the triggering attack’s ATK or ordinary damage bonus in the same way. That is why a reaction’s damage should not always be interpreted as a simple multiplier on the character’s displayed hit. See HoYoWiki’s reaction reference and the Genshin Impact Wiki damage reference.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles - PlayStation 4
  • It is the Taisho Period in Japan; Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon
  • Tanjiro resolves to become a “demon slayer” so that he can turn his sister back into a human and kill the demon that massacred his family
  • Follow Tanjiro through the story from the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime as he faces demons in order to turn his sister Nezuko, who has become a demon, back into a human
  • Master the multitude of spectacular skills of a wide roster of characters from the anime, including Tanjiro and Nezuko, to overcome challengers in head-to-head battle, locally and online

A missing reaction pop-up is not conclusive evidence that no reaction happened: rapid reaction text can be hidden even when the reaction occurred and dealt damage. Judge the run using the damage and combat conditions, not the pop-up alone. The damage reference documents this display limitation.

Repeat runs and compare more than the biggest number

Repeat each rotation several times when practical. Critical hits and variable reaction application can change a run’s result, and one unusually strong sequence may not represent typical execution. Compare both total damage over the same duration and how reliably the rotation can be performed.

Genshin Impact vs. Primordial Monsters
  • The ad-free feature is especially beneficial for a seamless gaming experience. Ads can often be disruptive and distracting, so having the option to play without them significantly improves overall enjoyment. With no interruptions, players can focus solely on strategy and gameplay, creating a smoother and more immersive experience.

For two rotation options, assess:

  • Total damage within the shared time window.
  • Damage by character, attack, or reaction where you can distinguish it.
  • Whether setup actions and follow-up effects occurred as intended.
  • How consistently reactions were applied across attempts.
  • Which enemy aura, buffs, and other assumptions were present.

A rotation that has a high ideal total but often misses setup actions may be less dependable in actual play. Report whether your figures come from in-game runs or a modeled calculation, and state the key conditions that shaped them.

Use a calculator as a model, not a combat log

A damage calculator can help evaluate a planned rotation, but its output is an estimate under the assumptions you enter—not a record of what happened in game. The genshin-damage-calc rotation documentation describes rotations as static: effects are not necessarily inferred from preceding events, so attacks and secondary consequences such as triggered damage must be declared explicitly. The documentation also supports reaction and aura assumptions, including reaction uptime inputs.

When using a calculator, specify the rotation events and relevant reaction or aura assumptions rather than treating a total as an automatic prediction. When publishing or sharing the result, label it as a calculator model and include the assumptions; label a measured in-game result separately.
