Start by checking what the game shows: an ordinary attempt ends when one of its two gauges reaches 100%; a Specialty Upgrade objective that will not advance instead calls for a specific profession rank and quest item; an explicit restriction notice is a separate issue with no verified fix established here.
Check the gauges on an ordinary extraction attempt
NC’s official AION 2 Korean guide, updated January 28, 2026, says Essence Extraction becomes available at character level 45. At a gathering node, extraction succeeds if the success gauge reaches 100% first. If the failure gauge reaches 100% first, the attempt fails.
A failed attempt still reduces the node’s durability. Once durability is depleted, the node disappears, so repeated attempts can exhaust it whether they succeed or fail. The guide also says the Essence Extraction skill improves gathering speed and success rate. Repeated extraction raises the extraction level and awards dedicated skill points to increase that skill.
If the attempt ends normally, note which gauge filled first and check the node’s remaining durability. That outcome is part of the described mechanic, not by itself evidence of a bug. NC’s Taiwanese official guide describes the same basic mechanics, while cautioning that some details may differ from the live game.

When the Specialty Upgrade quest will not advance
This is a different problem from an ordinary failed gathering attempt. For the Novice-to-Professional Specialty Upgrade, the current third-party quest guide identifies Essence Extraction Novice 50 as the rank gate and says the objective is to gather a Splendent Ruby from a Ruby node, then deliver it to the Artisan Essence Extractor for your faction. Check the current quest journal and in-game map before travelling: quest details can change, and these routing details come from a fan guide and game database, not an official guide.

Make sure the objective asks for Splendent Ruby. The guide distinguishes that bound quest item from Radiant Ruby Gemstone, a separate crafting material; a Ruby-looking item may not satisfy the quest.

If you see a repetitive-behavior restriction notice
One player reported the message “Essence Extraction has been restricted ue to repetitive behavior.” The reported text includes the apparent typo “ue.” This is an individual report, not an official explanation of the notice.
No source establishes what triggers the restriction, how long it lasts, or a confirmed way to clear it. Stop repeating the same action and consult official game support or current official notices. Do not rely on a fixed waiting period, switching characters, or another workaround as a known remedy: NC’s extraction guide explains the normal gauges and skill progression but does not cover this restriction.
