How to Install and Uninstall Games with Xbox Game Pass

On Windows, use the Xbox app to find and install a Game Pass game; to remove a PC install, right-click it in the app’s installed-games list and choose Uninstall game. On an Xbox console, install from the game or Game Pass library and follow the on-screen controls. PC and console use different interfaces, and streaming a supported game is an alternative to downloading it.

Install a Game Pass game on Windows PC

1. Open the Xbox app and browse the Game Pass library.

2. Select the game you want and choose its install action. Follow the prompts in the app to start the download.

3. When installation finishes, launch the game from the Xbox app.

Xbox describes the PC app as a place to browse the Game Pass library, download games and launch them. Button names and prompts may vary, so follow the install flow shown in your app rather than relying on a fixed sequence of labels. Xbox app for PC

Uninstall a Game Pass game from Windows PC

1. In the Xbox app, open the list of installed games.

2. Right-click the game you want to remove and select Uninstall game.

2. Select the game and choose the install action shown on screen, then follow the prompts.

Xbox Support maintains an Install games guide. Its available page text does not establish a detailed, current console menu sequence, so use the labels displayed on your console if they differ from these general steps.

Uninstall a game on an Xbox console

Use the console’s game-management controls to remove the installed game. Menu wording and navigation can differ by console interface, and a detailed current sequence is not established here; consult Xbox Support if the controls on your system are unclear. Do not use the PC app’s right-click instruction on a console.

Does seeing a game in the Xbox app mean it is installed through Game Pass?

No. The Windows Xbox app can aggregate games from Xbox/Game Pass and other supported PC storefronts. Xbox Wire reported this library capability on September 15, 2025, and said games installed through supported storefronts can appear in My Library. A game’s presence there does not by itself show that it is locally installed through Game Pass. Xbox Wire’s September 15, 2025 announcement

Can you play without downloading?

For supported titles, Xbox cloud gaming can let you stream rather than install a local copy. Availability depends on the game, plan, device and region; check the current Xbox app to see whether cloud play is offered for the title you want. Xbox app for PC
