1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor most gaming-laptop buyers, the RTX 5060 is the better value when it comes in a meaningfully cheaper system. An RTX 5070 can be worth paying more for if the price gap is modest and the specific laptop gives it adequate power and cooling—but it is not a VRAM upgrade: NVIDIA lists both GPUs with 8 GB of GDDR7 and 384 GB/s of memory bandwidth. Compare the complete laptop and its GPU power specification, not just the GPU name.
RTX 5060 Laptop vs. RTX 5070 Laptop: What the Specs Show
NVIDIA lists more CUDA cores for the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, while the two GPUs share the same listed memory capacity and bandwidth. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of a particular performance difference in every laptop.
| Specification | RTX 5060 Laptop GPU | RTX 5070 Laptop GPU |
|---|---|---|
| CUDA cores | 3,328 | 4,608 |
| Listed boost-clock range | 1,455–2,497 MHz | 1,425–2,347 MHz |
| GPU subsystem power range | 45–100 W | 50–100 W |
| Memory | 8 GB GDDR7 | 8 GB GDDR7 |
| Memory bandwidth | 384 GB/s | 384 GB/s |
Source for the listed GPU specifications and ranges: NVIDIA’s GeForce laptop comparison, accessed in 2026. The boost-clock ranges overlap, and the clock a laptop sustains depends on its implementation and workload. The higher CUDA-core count alone does not establish a universal gaming-performance uplift.
Why the Exact Laptop Matters More Than the GPU Label
Laptop manufacturers can configure the same GPU tier at different power levels. NVIDIA lists subsystem-power ranges of 45–100 W for the 5060 and 50–100 W for the 5070; the range is not a single fixed rating shared by every laptop. A low-power implementation can behave differently from a higher-power one, so check the specification for the exact model and regional SKU.

ASUS provides a clear example of variation even within one product family. Its TUF Gaming F16 (2025) specifications list both RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 options at 115 W (100 W + 15 W), with 8 GB GDDR7 each. Its TUF Gaming 16 (2026) specifications list both options at 85 W (70 W + 15 W), also with 8 GB GDDR7 each. These are model-specific specifications, not evidence that every 5060 or 5070 laptop uses those power levels.
When a listing gives a GPU power figure, check whether it includes Dynamic Boost and how the manufacturer describes the rating. Also consider cooling: a power figure does not by itself show how well a laptop can sustain performance under a demanding game.

What the Upgrade Costs—and What the Price Example Does Not Prove
The premium depends on the exact laptop configuration and current sale. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 review of the Lenovo Legion 5i Gen 11 reports a $300 RTX 5070 GPU upgrade premium for the reviewed configuration. That is a model-specific example, not a typical or market-wide price for moving from a 5060 to a 5070.
The same review lists a $1,899 starting configuration with an RTX 5060 and a $2,825 reviewed RTX 5070 configuration. The comparison is not a GPU-only price test: the configurations differ in storage (512 GB versus 1 TB), and the reviewed system includes other upgrades. See Tom’s Guide’s Legion 5i Gen 11 review for that specific configuration context. Check current prices for the exact systems you are considering; prices and availability can change.

The available sources do not provide a controlled, directly comparable benchmark of the 5060 and 5070 in otherwise identical laptops at the same power level. They therefore do not establish a reliable general performance percentage or a universal price threshold at which the upgrade becomes worthwhile. For a numerical comparison, look for tests of the exact laptop models and the games or creative applications you use.
Which GPU Makes More Sense for Your Games?
Choose the RTX 5060 when value is the priority
The 5060 is the sensible starting point if it saves a substantial amount on a laptop with a suitable GPU power rating, display, cooling, and overall configuration. PC Gamer’s 2026 laptop-GPU guide describes the 5060 as a budget option for 1080p gaming with 1440p capability, while warning that lower-power versions can struggle in demanding games. The guide says versions below 80 W are more likely to struggle in highly demanding games; treat that as editorial guidance from its reviewed context, not a guarantee for every laptop or title. Consider the RTX 5070 when the whole upgrade is compelling
The 5070’s higher listed CUDA-core count may make its added compute capability useful for GPU-heavy games or creative workloads, particularly when the price gap is modest and the laptop has a strong power and cooling implementation. But the shared 8 GB memory capacity means it does not give you more VRAM headroom. Neither the GPU name nor the core count establishes how large a real-world advantage you will see at your chosen resolution or settings.
For either GPU, a higher resolution or demanding ray tracing can increase the importance of GPU capability, but the evidence here does not quantify a general 5060-to-5070 uplift for those workloads. Use laptop-specific benchmarks for the games, resolution, and settings that matter to you.

Checklist Before You Buy
- Match the exact configuration. Confirm the model year, regional SKU, GPU, CPU, display, RAM, storage, warranty, and current price for both laptops.
- Check the GPU power rating. Find the manufacturer-listed GPU power or TGP for each exact configuration, and note whether the figure includes Dynamic Boost.
- Compare the full price difference. Separate the GPU premium from changes in storage, memory, screen, CPU, or other options; account for whether either price is a temporary sale.
- Fit the laptop to your workload. Consider your games, resolution, graphics settings, and any GPU-heavy creative applications rather than relying on the GPU tier alone.
- Look for relevant laptop-specific benchmarks. Prefer comparisons of the actual models at comparable settings; do not assume a generic performance percentage applies across different power limits and chassis.
