Start by identifying the exact symptom and checking the official patch notes for your game version. A problem noticed after an update is not necessarily caused by that update: crashes, frame stutter, input delay, network latency, matchmaking behavior, and reconnect failures can have different causes. The official troubleshooting steps below are primarily for PC; they are not console repair instructions.
First, identify the problem and check the update notes
Before changing settings, write down your platform, game version or update date, any error message, and when the problem occurs. Distinguish a crash at launch from a crash in a match, and distinguish frame stutter from input delay or network latency. For matchmaking, loading, or reconnect trouble, note the exact action that fails.
Then compare the symptom with the official Marvel Rivals patch notes for your build. Notes sometimes identify narrow game-side bugs; a fix for one hero or menu behavior does not explain every player’s lag or crashes. The official technical guidance is mainly for PC, and settings below that name Windows apply to Windows PCs only.
Fixing crashes or launch failures on PC
- Verify and repair the game files. Use the game platform or launcher’s integrity-check/repair option for Marvel Rivals. The official Common Technical Issues FAQ recommends this for repeated gameplay crashes. Allow the check to finish, then launch the game and see whether the same crash returns.
- If the crash continues, enable GPU Debug Mode and clean-install the current graphics driver. Follow the FAQ’s GPU Debug Mode guidance, then install the latest driver for your graphics card using the driver installer’s clean-install option where available. Restart Windows and test again. Driver interfaces differ by manufacturer, so use the instructions for your GPU vendor.
- Check security software for a false detection. Antivirus or firewall software can interfere with launching the game or entering a match. If your security software identifies a block, add a targeted exception for the official
Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exeand the game’s installation directory, following that product’s documentation. Do not whitelist unrelated files or folders; a targeted exception is preferable to routinely disabling protection. - Try the launcher’s shader compilation option. The FAQ suggests enabling Switch Shader Compilation Mode in the launcher as a possible way to reduce the likelihood of crashes. It is a mitigation to test, not a guaranteed fix.
If the crash remains, use the FAQ’s information-collection instructions and official customer-support route rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings. Record what you tried and the exact error or crash timing.

Fixing stuttering or low performance on PC
For frequent frame stutter or generally low performance, the official FAQ recommends two targeted checks:
- Clean-install the latest graphics driver for your GPU, then restart and retest.
- Set Marvel Rivals to high performance in Windows graphics settings: open Settings → System → Display → Graphics, select or add the game, open its options, and choose High performance.
If performance is still poor, lower demanding in-game settings such as texture quality and retest one setting at a time. Meeting minimum system requirements does not guarantee fast performance. The December 6, 2024 release FAQ lists NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580 as examples in its minimum graphics-card guidance for DirectX 12; that dated specification is not a current independent benchmark or a promise of smooth play.

If the lag is tied to mouse input
Input delay associated with a high-polling-rate mouse is different from network latency or low frame rate. The January 16, 2026 official notes describe an experimental optimization under Settings → Keyboard that may resolve related lag when activated. Try it only if the symptom fits that situation; it is not a general fix for every kind of lag.
Matchmaking, loading, and reconnect problems
Check the patch notes before changing local settings: a known game-side behavior and a PC security-software block call for different responses.

Matchmaking behavior that matches a named patch fix
The October 1, 2026 official notes fixed a specific issue in which selecting GO in Jeff’s Superstar Search forced the lobby into Quick Match. This applies if that exact action and result describe your problem; it does not establish a general matchmaking fix.
Failure to enter a match or reconnect on PC
The official FAQ says antivirus or firewall interference can prevent match entry or reconnection. Check the security software’s block or quarantine history and, if needed, create a targeted exception for the official game executable and installation path using the vendor’s instructions. This is separate from a matchmaking bug documented in patch notes.

When the symptom is a known, narrow gameplay bug
Some patch notes describe temporary issues limited to a particular hero or ability. For example, the September 11, 2026 Season 10 notes report a fix for delayed ability response after Cloak & Dagger switched forms while using the Oblivion Shroud Team-Up. The July 2, 2026 notes report a fix for brief lag or stuttering that could occur when Rogue used Ability Absorption. These are examples of specific game-side issues, not evidence that a similar symptom has the same cause in another build.
A historical August 19, 2025 notice said a hotfix reduced the likelihood of client freezes after enabling NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation and GPU crashes. That notice describes a past hotfix; it is not a diagnosis for crashes on current clients.

If troubleshooting does not resolve it
Before contacting support, collect the details that help distinguish a game bug from a local PC issue:
- Platform and exact game version or update date
- What you were doing when the problem occurred, and whether it happens every time
- The complete error text, or a description of what happens if there is no message
- For PC: GPU model, graphics-driver version, relevant settings, and security software involved
- Whether the issue is a crash, frame stutter, input delay, network latency, matchmaking behavior, loading failure, or failed reconnect
- The checks and changes you already tried, and what happened after each
Follow the official FAQ and support instructions for submitting the requested information. The recommended checks are diagnostic steps, not a guarantee of a fix; current patch behavior and available troubleshooting options can change.
