If you want the closest preparation for Physint, start with the Metal Gear Solid trilogy in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. Prefer a more modern presentation? Choose Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, a remake of the third game. For Kojima outside espionage, try Death Stranding Director’s Cut—an optional detour, not a direct preview.
Physint was announced as a new action-espionage game, not as a Metal Gear sequel. Kojima Productions’ January 2024 announcement gave no release date, so these picks are best understood as ways to explore related work while you wait.
What should you play while you wait for Physint?
Choose based on what you want from the wait: classic stealth and espionage, a remake with updated presentation, or a look at Kojima’s work beyond that genre. No existing game is established as essential preparation for Physint.
| Game | Best fit | What it offers |
|---|---|---|
| Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 | Closest genre match | Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in one collection. |
| Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater | Modern remake option | A remake of the 2004 Metal Gear Solid 3, retaining its original story and game design while updating visuals and sound. |
| Death Stranding Director’s Cut | Different genre, same creator | An expanded edition featuring additional action, areas, storylines through new missions, and the Social Strand System. |
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is the closest match
If your main question is “Which Hideo Kojima game is closest to Metal Gear?”, this collection is the clearest answer. Konami describes the series as stealth-focused games about moving through hostile environments without being detected. The collection brings together the first three Metal Gear Solid games, making it the most direct route into Kojima’s cited espionage and stealth work.
#1 Best Overall
Konami says the collection is playable on current platforms. Check the store listing for your preferred platform and edition before buying; the cited information does not establish a complete, current platform matrix for every region. These are older releases, so their controls and presentation may feel dated beside newer games.
Konami’s 2025 company report says the Metal Gear series had sold over 62 million copies to date. That is a company-published figure, not an independent sales audit.

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is the remake route
Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater remakes Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, originally released in 2004. Konami says the remake retains the original story and game design while updating visuals and sound. It offers a more contemporary presentation than playing the original trilogy in the collection, while focusing on the same foundational entry.
Konami’s 2025 report lists an August 28, 2025 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. This is a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, not a new Physint preview or an announced connection to that game.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is an optional detour
If you want to see Kojima’s work outside espionage, Death Stranding Director’s Cut is the distinct alternative. Kojima Productions says this edition adds character action, expanded areas, extended storylines through new missions, and a Social Strand System that connects players through in-game actions. Its 2022 announcement listed PS5 and PC availability.
This is a different genre path, not a way to learn what Physint will play like. Kojima Productions’ homepage says Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is out now on PC, but it is not necessary for a Physint primer; consider it only if you already want to continue with Death Stranding.

What is confirmed about Physint?
Kojima Productions announced Physint on January 31, 2024, as a new action-espionage game in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Hideo Kojima said preparations were underway and that production would begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2. The announcement described an intended blend of film and games using advanced technology and a notable cast, but did not give a release date.
In a February 2024 interview report, Kojima said fan requests for another Metal Gear had influenced his decision to make an action-espionage game, while also expressing a desire to create new things. That explains why the genre comparison is useful; it does not make Physint a Metal Gear sequel. The verified announcement does not establish a newer release window or a change in publisher.
