(“Playable Teaser”) was a free PlayStation 4 horror teaser that revealed itself as a preview of the planned game Silent Hills. It is difficult to play today because Konami ended its PlayStation Store distribution in 2015, and follow-up reporting said even people who had previously downloaded it could no longer retrieve it from PlayStation’s servers.
What was P.T.?
P.T. arrived as a mysterious, free download on the PlayStation Store for PS4, without initially explaining what it was promoting. Completing the teaser revealed its identity as a playable preview for Silent Hills, a planned game associated with Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro, and Norman Reedus. GameSpot’s account of the delisting describes the connection and the teaser’s reveal.

It was therefore not a full Silent Hill game or a conventional trailer. Its unusual release and hidden connection to the planned project are part of what made P.T. distinctive.
Why is P.T. hard to play now?
The original was distributed digitally through the PS4 PlayStation Store, and that distribution ended in 2015. An official notice, reported by GameSpot on April 25, said: “The distribution period for ‘P.T. (Playable Teaser)’ on PlayStation®Store will expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.” GameSpot reported the notice and end date.

After the delisting, coverage briefly gave existing downloaders reason to think they could still retrieve the game. On April 30, GameSpot reported that people who had previously downloaded P.T. could still download it. GameSpot’s April 30 report was followed by a different account: Game Informer updated its coverage to say Konami had fully removed the teaser, and GameSpot reported on May 6 that it could no longer be downloaded from PlayStation’s servers, even by people who had added it to their library. Game Informer’s update and GameSpot’s May 6 follow-up capture that change.
That timeline matters: an old library entry was not a dependable way to download P.T. once the server route was reported removed. Game Informer reported a 1.37 GB download in 2015; that figure describes the download then, not a current storage requirement or a measure of the game’s popularity. Game Informer’s April 30 report included the size.

Can you still play the original?
The historical reporting establishes that P.T. was delisted and that its server download path was later reported unavailable. It does not establish the present behavior of every PS4 that still has a working installation, every account, console transfer, or preserved backup. Nor does it verify a current authorized way to obtain the original.
So distinguish the original installation from a fresh download: a console that already has the game is a different case from an account that merely remembers adding it to its library. The sources cited here do not settle whether a specific surviving installation or backup works today.

What about fan recreations or other Silent Hill games?
A fan recreation, an unofficial copy, and another Silent Hill game are not the original P.T. The 2015 reporting does not verify the present availability, platform, authenticity, safety, or legal status of particular recreations or copies. Treat claims about those options as separate from the documented history of the PS4 teaser.
Likewise, buying a generic PS4 or accessory does not restore access to a delisted download. A pre-owned console advertised as having P.T. installed is a seller-specific case, not a reliable route established by the available reporting.
