In the original Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 DMZ, death could cost you nonpermanent items carried in your backpack, and missing the final exfil could leave you MIA. A new DMZ set in Hajin is announced for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, but its detailed gear, contract, and extraction rules have not yet been established in the official information available as of October 7, 2026.
How do you survive in DMZ?
In the original Warzone 2.0 DMZ, the loop was to choose faction missions, deploy into Al Mazrah, gather valuables, take on contracts or other map activities, then try to extract alive. Activision described it as an open-world, narrative-focused extraction mode. Your objectives and loot could keep you in the match longer, but carrying more for longer also meant exposing the run to further danger before you could secure what you had collected. That trade-off follows from the mode’s documented loss and extraction rules; it is not a tested optimal strategy.
DMZ was single-life: elimination could cost nonpermanent backpack contents. Marked exfil locations let you call a helicopter, but those opportunities could run out. A final exfil then became the last escape route; if you failed to leave, you were considered MIA. Activision’s original DMZ overview explains those stakes.
What gear should you carry?
For the original mode, your backpack held weapons, equipment, cash, and valuables. Items found in the world had to be placed in it manually. Gear details changed over time, so the following specialist equipment reflects Activision’s Season 03 update from April 2023—not a confirmed equipment list for the forthcoming Hajin mode.

These are feature descriptions, not proof that any option is best in a current live build. The right choice depends on whether you value carry capacity, weapon slots, faster revives, information, radar concealment, or time underwater. Activision’s Season 03 gear overview describes these items.
What threats should you expect?
In original DMZ, danger came from the environment as well as combat. Activision listed enemy Operators, AI combatants, sandstorms, and radiation among the threats. Other players could be pursuing different tasks, so an encounter with another squad was an uncertainty even when your immediate objective was elsewhere.

Do not assume this exact hazard list applies to the new DMZ in Hajin. The official materials reviewed for the upcoming mode do not establish its full set of threats or how they work.
What are contracts, and how are they different from missions?
In the original mode, faction missions were selected before a match. Contracts, world events, and locations offered additional activities during deployment. Activision’s Season 03 overview also added a Supply Run contract and barter recipes at Buy Stations.

These activities were not the same as extraction: missions and contracts could advance faction progress or provide supplies, while extracting was how you tried to leave the run with your carried items. The Supply Run and barter details are specific to the 2023 Season 03 overview; they should not be assumed to describe Modern Warfare 4 DMZ.
What is confirmed about the new Modern Warfare 4 DMZ?
As of October 7, 2026, Activision describes the new mode as taking place in Hajin and combining “narrative-driven Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, player-driven encounters, and match-to-match progression inside a volatile battleground where every deployment matters.” The quotation is from Call of Duty Staff’s Modern Warfare 4 official intel hub, dated October 5, 2026.

Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, according to Activision’s June 6, 2026 deep dive. That release date does not mean the mode is already playable on October 7.

The official descriptions confirm Story Missions and Dynamic Operations, but the reviewed materials do not provide a complete contract list, detailed reward values, or a full extraction ruleset for Hajin. They also do not establish the new mode’s gear inventory or confirm that legacy backpacks, vests, or hazards will return. Activision’s hub says more DMZ intel is forthcoming, so those specifics should be treated as unconfirmed until officially described.
