Yes—Xbox Game Pass can be used on handhelds, but the method depends on the device and game. You can install supported PC games on a Windows handheld, stream supported games through Xbox Cloud Gaming, or stream games from your own Xbox console with remote play. Eligible Xbox Play Anywhere titles can also carry your progress between supported Xbox and PC devices. Not every Game Pass game works on every handheld, and cloud play requires a supported region and a reliable internet connection.
Which handhelds work with Game Pass?
Windows handheld PCs
Windows handhelds can run the PC version of supported games through the Xbox PC experience. Xbox presents the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X as handhelds for downloading and playing games, cloud gaming, console remote play, and Xbox Play Anywhere. Local installation is the route to consider when you want to rely less on a continuous cloud connection, but each game has its own PC requirements, storage needs, and compatibility limits. Check the specific title rather than assuming the full catalog will run well.

Cloud-focused handhelds
Xbox Wire’s guide dated December 19, 2025 names the ROG Xbox Ally, ROG Xbox Ally X, Logitech G Cloud, and Razer Edge among handhelds for cloud play. Device support and availability can change, so check Xbox’s current cloud gaming page for your device and region.

Steam Deck
Xbox Wire described Steam Deck cloud support as being in beta in its December 19, 2025 guide. The setup it outlines is not native Xbox app support: switch to Desktop Mode, install Microsoft Edge, then visit Xbox.com/play. Because the status may have changed since that guide, verify current instructions before setting it up.
Other supported devices
Xbox’s cloud FAQ lists Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, selected LG, Samsung, and VIDAA TVs, Amazon Fire TV, and select Meta Quest headsets. The exact list is subject to change; consult the Xbox Cloud Gaming FAQ for current device and regional availability.

Choose the right way to play

Cloud gaming and remote play are different: cloud gaming streams from Xbox’s service, while remote play streams from your own console. Neither method means that every title in the subscription catalog is available to stream on every device.
What you need for cloud gaming
- A supported device and region: Availability and the playable catalog vary. Check Xbox’s live device, region, and game information.
- Eligible access: Xbox’s FAQ says cloud gaming generally requires an active Essential, Premium, or Ultimate subscription and a supported game. Selected free-to-play cloud games can be played with a free Microsoft account in supported regions.
- A controller or supported touch controls: Xbox lists a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB; selected games support touch controls.
- A compatible browser for browser play: Xbox names Edge, Chrome, and Safari among supported browsers.
- A stable internet connection: Xbox’s FAQ gives a minimum downstream speed of 10 Mbps and notes that some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. Xbox Wire’s December 2025 guide recommends at least 20 Mbps for a stable connection, with 5 GHz Wi-Fi or capable 5G as options and wired Ethernet where available. The 10 Mbps figure is a minimum, not a promise of smooth play; actual results depend on the device and network.
What you need for local installs and remote play
Local PC installs
You need a compatible Windows handheld, an Xbox account and PC game access, plus enough storage and hardware capability for the particular game. Xbox notes that PC requirements vary by title, and performance can differ with frame rate and other game specifications. A local install may be the better option to investigate for travel or unreliable connectivity, but do not assume every title can be played offline: check the game’s license and launcher behavior.

Remote play from an Xbox console
Remote play requires a supported device and game, and an Xbox One or Series X|S with remote features enabled. The console must be on or in Sleep mode. Internet or mobile-data charges may apply; Xbox says online console multiplayer through remote play requires a separately sold Game Pass subscription.

ERP is not necessarily the price charged by a retailer. The 2025 guide’s description of unlimited cloud gaming differs from the current US page result’s monthly cloud-hour limits, so rely on the live plan terms rather than the older wording. Budget for the handheld or console if you do not already own one, subscription renewal, tax, internet or mobile data, and any controller or other peripheral you need.

- If you need to play away from a reliable connection: look first at installing the PC version on a compatible Windows handheld, then check whether the particular game supports your offline needs.
