If Nathan did return, Uncharted 4 points to the central story question: can he answer the call of adventure without giving up the family life he chose?
What is officially known about Uncharted 5?
Naughty Dog’s news listing includes a 2026 item marking Uncharted 4’s anniversary, but the official material reviewed does not announce a fifth game, its plot, or its cast. The distinction matters: fan questions such as “why won’t they make another game?” reflect interest, not evidence of a development plan. Check Naughty Dog’s official news page and PlayStation’s Uncharted franchise page for announcements; their current silence should not be read as proof that no project exists.
Why Nathan’s return would reopen Uncharted 4’s central tension
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End provides the clearest basis for imagining a continuation. PlayStation’s official synopsis says, “Three years after his last escapade, Nathan Drake has retired from global exploration, but he still feels the overwhelming lure of adventure.” Sam’s return draws Nathan back into danger, setting family, his past, and what he is willing to sacrifice for loved ones at the heart of the story. A hypothetical fifth game with Nathan could test whether that old impulse can coexist with the quieter life he chose. Would another expedition be a temporary exception, a threat to his family, or an adventure he undertakes alongside them? Those are story possibilities suggested by the previous game’s setup—not reported plot details, leaks, or confirmed plans.

What role could Nathan play in a hypothetical fifth game?
A new installment would not have to make Nathan its main playable character. The series already has a model for passing the lead: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy follows Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, as described on PlayStation’s Uncharted franchise page. That precedent leaves several broad possibilities open, none of them confirmed:
- Nathan as the lead: A direct continuation could put him back at the center of the adventure and its family-versus-exploration conflict.
- Nathan in a supporting or mentor role: He might connect a new protagonist to the established series without carrying the whole story himself.
- A different lead: Chloe, Nadine, or another established character could headline a standalone branch, as Chloe did in The Lost Legacy.
When an official announcement arrives, two questions will help clarify its direction: who leads the adventure, and whether it continues Uncharted 4 directly or starts a separate branch. No fifth-game option has been confirmed.

Who is confirmed for the Uncharted 5 cast?
No cast for a new game has been confirmed in the official pages reviewed. Naughty Dog identifies Nolan North as the performer behind Nathan Drake in the games; its anniversary post says, “He captured the essence of Nate from the very start of the series and continued to outdo himself with every entry through Uncharted 4.” The comment is about North’s work in the existing games, not a fifth-game casting announcement. Do not confuse the game continuity with the film adaptation. Tom Holland played Nathan Drake in Sony Pictures’ 2022 Uncharted movie, a separate continuity; that casting does not confirm his involvement in a future game. The film is described on Sony Pictures’ official movie page.

How to catch up while waiting for an announcement
For a story-focused refresher, PlayStation says Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection includes the single-player stories from Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy. Naughty Dog’s anniversary post also points players to the collection. It is a way to revisit the existing games, not a prerequisite for an unannounced sequel.
