BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN is announced but unreleased, so there is no confirmed launch date. If you want a game to play while you wait, BrokenLore: DON’T WATCH is the closest released match for first-person horror in a Japanese setting; Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! is the stronger pick for school-romance horror, though it plays as a visual novel rather than an exploration game.
What makes a game like BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN?
Steam describes MIKI-CHAN as a first-person psychological horror game about Kazuaki, a Japanese student preparing for the Teidai entrance exam and hoping to win over the girl he loves. After finding a USB drive with a study-support program, he meets Miki-chan, a virtual assistant whose reassuring presence turns jealous and possessive. A tool called the Rewriter lets Kazuaki alter reality. The official Steam listing says the game is single-player and gives its release date as “To be announced”; the US PlayStation Store listing also marks it as announced, with a date to be determined.
That premise points to several different kinds of comparison: first-person psychological horror, Japanese settings and folklore, school romance curdling into obsession, and stories in which reality becomes unreliable. The recommendations below distinguish those overlaps rather than treating every horror game as an equivalent match.
Best games to play while waiting for MIKI-CHAN
| Game | Best match for | How it differs | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| BrokenLore: DON’T WATCH | First-person psychological horror in a Japanese setting | Focuses on isolation and anxiety, not a school romance or possessive virtual assistant | Released April 24, 2025 |
| BrokenLore: DON’T LIE | Fractured reality and psychological horror | Official descriptions do not establish a school setting or virtual-assistant premise | Released September 10, 2026; playable as a standalone story |
| Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! | School romance that turns into psychological horror | A visual novel built around poems and choices, not first-person exploration | Released |
| BrokenLore: LOW | Japanese setting and supernatural folklore | Centers on a village and a yokai rather than a student and virtual assistant | Released February 20, 2025 |
BrokenLore: DON’T WATCH: closest first-person match
For the most direct released alternative, start with DON’T WATCH. Its first-person psychological-horror format and Tokyo setting overlap with MIKI-CHAN, but its protagonist is Shinji, a hikikomori isolated in an apartment and haunted by a malevolent entity. The official Steam listing frames the story around social isolation, anxiety, and psychological distress. Choose it for the perspective and mood, not for the romance or AI-companion premise.

BrokenLore: DON’T LIE: for fractured perception
DON’T LIE is a fit if the reality-bending element of the Rewriter is what interests you most. Its official description identifies Japanese psychological horror involving trauma, isolation, and fractured reality, and says it can be played as a standalone BrokenLore story. That supports it as a thematic companion, but does not establish that it shares MIKI-CHAN‘s school setting or virtual-assistant story. See the Steam listing.
Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!: for romance beneath the horror
If you care more about the school-romance setup than first-person gameplay, try Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!. Its official Steam description presents a psychological horror visual novel built around school romance, writing poems, and choices, with horror emerging beneath the dating-sim surface. It is a thematic match, not a mechanical one: expect a visual novel rather than a first-person exploration game. The developer warns of self-harm and suicide content.
BrokenLore: LOW: for Japanese folklore
LOW shifts the appeal toward supernatural Japanese horror. Released February 20, 2025, it is set in a Japanese village and draws on the Gashadokuro yokai. Its Steam tags include first-person, stealth, investigation, and psychological horror. The village-and-folklore setting makes it a useful atmospheric alternative, although its premise is distinct from MIKI-CHAN‘s student-and-assistant story. See the Steam listing.
More BrokenLore games to consider
Serafini Productions describes other entries with different horror angles: UNFOLLOW explores social media and mental health; FOLLOW is a first-person story about bullying and self-acceptance; ASCEND combines first-person horror with climbing and stealth; and DARK DAWN follows an abduction story involving warped reality. These broaden the franchise options, but their stated premises provide a less specific match to MIKI-CHAN than the recommendations above. The developer’s BrokenLore page lists the series and official store links.
