If you want turn-based combat and more Fate lore, start with Fate/Grand Order: it is the clearest official match, though it is an ongoing mobile RPG for iOS and Android, not a standalone console game. For the closest return to Fate/EXTRA’s Moon Cell premise and card-based battles, look to Fate/EXTRA Record—a remake of the original, not a separate sequel. Fate/Samurai Remnant and Fate/EXTELLA LINK are strong alternatives if you are willing to trade turn-based combat for action.
Which Fate game should you play next?
| Game | Combat | Best fit | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fate/Grand Order | Turn-based, with tactical and Command Card phases | You want an official Fate RPG with turn-based battles | Ongoing mobile RPG for iOS and Android |
| Fate/EXTRA Record | Strategic, customizable Command Card deck battles | You want to revisit the Moon Cell premise in a rebuilt version of Fate/EXTRA | Announced for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and Steam; listed release date: January 28, 2027 |
| Fate/Samurai Remnant | Action RPG combat | You want a new Fate conflict and can accept action gameplay | Action RPG; check the relevant store listing for platform and regional edition details |
| Fate/EXTELLA LINK | High-speed action combat | You want Servant battles, branching routes, and character bonds | Action-focused game; check the relevant store listing for platform and regional edition details |
The genre split matters: being a Fate game does not make a title turn-based. The official material identifies Fate/Grand Order and Fate/EXTRA Record as the turn-based or card-battle choices here, while Samurai Remnant and EXTELLA LINK are action alternatives.
Fate/Grand Order: the clearest turn-based alternative
Fate/Grand Order is the strongest fit if your priority is turn-based battles alongside the Fate setting. Aniplex describes it as a Fate smartphone RPG for iOS and Android. Its official gameplay guide breaks combat into a tactical phase and a Command Card phase, giving you decisions to make before and during each turn. See Aniplex’s official Fate/Grand Order site.
Its key trade-off is format. This is an ongoing mobile game, not a self-contained console RPG. Choose it when you are happy to play on a phone or tablet and engage with an ongoing game structure; choose a standalone release instead if you specifically want a console or PC campaign.

Fate/EXTRA Record: the closest return to the Moon Cell
Fate/EXTRA Record rebuilds the original Fate/EXTRA, the first Fate-series RPG, which debuted on PSP in Japan in 2010. It revises and expands that story rather than continuing it as a wholly separate new entry. The setting returns to the digital world of the Moon Cell and the Moon Holy Grail War, while the rebuilt combat uses strategic deckbuilding and customizable Command Cards. Check the official Fate/EXTRA Record site.
The official listing gives January 28, 2027 as the release date and names PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and Steam as platforms. Since release timing and platform availability can change, confirm the current listing for your region before buying.

Fate/Samurai Remnant: choose it for the story, not turn-based combat
Fate/Samurai Remnant builds its story around the Waxing Moon Ritual, a struggle among Masters and Servants in Edo. PlayStation describes it as an Action RPG; its combat lets you switch between Master and Servant. It is a good option if an original Fate conflict and character dynamics matter more to you than a turn-based battle system. If turn-based play is essential, this is not the match. Fate is a broad franchise: PlayStation Blog counted more than 100 titles across games, anime, novels, manga, and apps as of August 2026. That total covers several kinds of media, not games alone, so it is not a count of playable recommendations. PlayStation Blog’s 2026 Fate/EXTRA Record preview also quotes Aniplex’s Takashi Kimura: “We believe this makes Fate/Extra Record accessible and easy to play for newcomers, while offering a fresh experience for fans of the original game.”
