Which DLC version should you buy?
Match the expansion to the base game: the Scarlet DLC works with Pokémon Scarlet, and the Violet DLC works with Pokémon Violet. The editions are not interchangeable. If you want to play the expansion in both games, you need the corresponding DLC for each. [Nintendo Support’s compatibility guidance]

If you need both a base game and its expansion, The Pokémon Company announced separate physical Pokémon Scarlet + DLC and Pokémon Violet + DLC bundles in 2023. That announcement does not establish current retailer stock, so verify the listing’s version and included content before buying. [Bundle announcement, September 26, 2023]
How to access and start the DLC
- Buy the matching expansion. Choose Scarlet DLC for Pokémon Scarlet or Violet DLC for Pokémon Violet.
- Download it. If it has not been downloaded, the in-game Downloadable Content icon can take you to Nintendo eShop. The game menu’s DLC icon can also help confirm installation.
- Start The Teal Mask after unlocking the Treasure Hunt. You do not need to finish the base game’s main story to access this part.
- Meet the later story requirements for The Indigo Disk. Nintendo says to complete the base game’s main story, view the credits, and finish the events of The Teal Mask to access The Indigo Disk’s main story.
Nintendo Support also says the New Uniform Set is available immediately after purchasing the DLC; the story adventures still depend on the required game progress. For installation and access troubleshooting, see Nintendo’s DLC access guide.

Does Pokémon HOME unlock The Indigo Disk?
No HOME requirement is included in Nintendo’s stated access checklist. Pokémon HOME added compatibility with The Indigo Disk in version 3.2.1 on December 14, 2023, but Nintendo’s DLC access instructions focus on owning and installing the matching expansion and meeting the story milestones. - Only one code for a Hisuian Zoroark can be used in either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
