Plan for 170 GB of available space. That is the published PC requirement for FINAL FANTASY XVI on Steam—not a separately measured Steam Deck install size. Steam also says an SSD is required, so check the free space on your Deck and the type of storage you plan to use.

What is the storage requirement?

Steam lists 170 GB available space for both the minimum and recommended PC requirements, with “SSD required” in the additional notes. Square Enix’s official PC requirements page likewise specifies 170 GB or more and an SSD. Steam’s FINAL FANTASY XVI listing and Square Enix’s PC requirements describe the PC requirement; neither publishes a separate Steam Deck install-size figure.

Will it fit on your Steam Deck?

That depends on how much space is free on your particular Deck, not just its advertised capacity. Valve lists Steam Deck models with 512 GB and 1 TB NVMe SSDs, as well as a high-speed microSD slot. Those capacity figures describe the device’s storage, not the space available after the operating system, other games, and files are accounted for. Valve’s Steam Deck technical specifications provide the model and expansion details.

Storage detail What is established
Game requirement 170 GB available space; Steam also says “SSD required.”
Steam Deck internal storage 512 GB or 1 TB NVMe SSD configurations are listed by Valve.
Steam Deck expansion Valve documents a high-speed microSD slot with UHS-I support for SD, SDXC, and SDHC cards.
Steam Deck-specific game footprint Not stated by Steam or Square Enix in the cited requirements.

How to check whether you have enough space

  1. Check the free space shown on your Deck. Compare that figure with the 170 GB published requirement; do not use the model’s total capacity as a substitute for available space.
  2. Choose the storage location with the SSD requirement in mind. The game’s PC listing says an SSD is required. Valve documents microSD expansion, but the official sources do not establish that a microSD installation is equivalent to an SSD or guarantee FINAL FANTASY XVI’s performance or compatibility from that storage.
  3. Leave room if you can. The cited requirements do not state a separate download size, update reserve, or Steam Deck install footprint, so 170 GB is the planning figure available from the official PC requirements—not a guarantee of the exact space the Deck will show during installation or updates.

What the 170 GB figure does—and does not—tell you

Use 170 GB as the published minimum planning target for available storage. It is not evidence of a Deck-specific measured install, a download size, or an exact post-install footprint. If you are deciding whether to clear space or expand storage, first check your Deck’s actual free space and account for the listing’s SSD requirement.
