Replace the deprecated store.steampowered.com/appreviews/<appid>?json=1 URL with Steam’s IUserReviewsService/GetAppReviews/v1/ Web API method. Pass method parameters through input_json, update language and filter values, use cursors for pagination, and revise your response parser. A Web API key is optional for public reviews.
What replaces the legacy Steam review endpoint?
Steam identifies IUserReviewsService/GetAppReviews as the replacement for its deprecated /appreviews endpoint. The new method URL is https://api.steampowered.com/IUserReviewsService/GetAppReviews/v1/; provide the required application ID as appid in the method parameters. How do I migrate from Steam’s legacy review endpoint to the keyless endpoint?
1. Change the request URL and parameter location
Stop constructing the store URL with the app ID in its path. Call the new API URL and pass the method parameters as input_json, including the required appid. Consult Steam’s method reference for the exact service request format and parameter definitions before updating your HTTP client.
2. Map legacy parameters to the new names and values
The new method changes some parameter conventions. In particular, the old language parameter becomes languages, which accepts a list. An empty list selects English; all requests every language. Supply supported API language codes when selecting particular languages.

Do not carry legacy filter strings across unchanged. Map legacy all, recent, and updated to the corresponding documented filter enum values: Helpful, Recent, and Updated. Review type and purchase type likewise use their corresponding enums. Check the current parameter reference for the accepted enum values and optional criteria.
3. Choose a filter that fits the job
Helpful is the default and is designed to find useful reviews: it widens its day_range until it finds results. Its day range defaults to 30 days, is capped at 365, and can be set to 0 for no limit. Because the search window can widen to find results, Helpful is not the right filter for determining that a full cursor walk has reached the end of the collection.
For a cursor walk that should eventually reach an empty page, use Recent or Updated. The new method also supports Funny sorting and additional date-range, playtime, Steam Deck, and hardware filters. By default, purchase_type is Steam purchases only, while review_type includes all review types.
4. Preserve cursor pagination
Omit cursor on the first request or set it to *. For each subsequent request, pass back the cursor returned by the previous response. If you are paging through all reviews, pair this with Recent or Updated and stop when the method returns an empty review list. Cursor values may need URL encoding when included in a request.

5. Update response parsing and error handling
The replacement response does not contain the legacy success field. Use the HTTP status to handle request-level errors, including the documented possibility of HTTP 429 when a request is rate-limited. Review the new response schema and update assumptions that no longer match it:
author.num_games_ownedhas been removed.weighted_vote_scoreis numeric rather than a string.- The response adds a
refundedfield. total_matchingandday_range_usedprovide additional values.
query_summary totals and scores appear only on the first page and only when review_type is All. Avoid treating their absence on later pages as a parsing error or assuming those summary values are repeated.

Does the new endpoint require a Web API key?
No. Steam documents that public review requests can be anonymous and may be cached for up to 10 minutes. Anonymous requests share a lower rate limit, and Steam does not state a fixed quota in the cited endpoint documentation. A rate-limited request may receive HTTP 429.
Sending an app-associated publisher key provides a higher rate limit. That choice adds a credential to protect: create and manage keys through Steamworks, keep them on secure servers, use HTTPS, and never distribute a publisher key with a game client.
