No: the sources reviewed do not document a PS5 emulator that plays retail PS5 games. The emulator most likely to be mistaken for one, shadPS4, is an early-stage PS4 emulator for desktop computers. Its documented workflow uses game dumps from your own PS4 copy—not a retail disc—and does not support PS5 game files.
Can a PS5 emulator play retail games?
There is an important distinction between a PS4 emulator and a PS5 emulator. shadPS4 describes itself as an early PlayStation 4 emulator for Windows, Linux, and macOS; it is not a PS5 emulator. Its official documentation covers PS4 game dumps and PS4 system modules, not retail PS5 games. shadPS4 project README

The shadPS4 guide does not document putting a retail disc into a PC and playing it. Instead, it describes installing a game dump made from your own copy. The project warns that it remains early in development: “Many games do not work, and the few that do work usually face various emulation issues.” Check the project’s current compatibility information before expecting a particular PS4 game to run. shadPS4 Quick Start
What files does the documented shadPS4 workflow need?
The core item is a dump of a PS4 game you own. Updates, DLC, and certain support files are separate and may be optional. The Quick Start describes these files and folders:

| Item | How the guide handles it | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Base game | Place the dump in the game installation directory or add its directory as a game path. The guide uses a folder named with the game’s serial, such as CUSAxxxxx. |
Yes, for the game you want to run. |
| Game update | Install the update dump separately in a folder named CUSAxxxxx-patch in the game installation directory. |
Optional; the guide treats updates separately from the base game. |
| DLC | Place dumped additional content in the additional-content directory, in a folder matching the game folder. | Optional; needed only for the relevant add-on content. |
| PS4 firmware modules | Some supported modules can be placed in shadPS4’s sys_modules folder. The guide describes dumping decrypted modules from a PS4. |
Not a complete firmware image for every game. Some modules may improve compatibility. |
| Trophy key and fonts | The Quick Start describes optional setup steps for trophy support and fonts used by some games. | Not described as universal game-boot requirements. |
| Retail PS5 game files | Not part of the documented shadPS4 workflow; shadPS4 targets PS4 emulation. | Not applicable. |
Use dumps made from your own copy: the shadPS4 guide warns that games, updates, and DLC are copyrighted and instructs users to dump their own copy. Its README also says supported firmware modules must come from a legally owned PS4 console. shadPS4 Quick Start shadPS4 project README
Can you play a retail PS4 disc on a PS5 instead?
If you want to play a PS4 disc rather than use a PC emulator, Sony supports compatible PS4 discs on PS5 consoles with a disc drive. Keep the disc inserted while playing; PS4 discs cannot be used with PS5 Digital Edition. Sony says the overwhelming majority of its 4,000+ PS4 games are playable on PS5, while noting exceptions and possible errors or unavailable features. The support page does not show a publication date. Sony Interactive Entertainment: PS5 backward compatibility

Which option fits your goal?
| Option | What it runs | Input | Hardware and compatibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| shadPS4 | PS4 software | Dumped game files; updates and DLC are installed separately when used. | Desktop software for Windows, Linux, and macOS. It is early in development, and compatibility varies by game. |
| PS5 console | Many PS4 games through backward compatibility | A PS4 disc can be used on a PS5 model with a disc drive; the disc must remain inserted. | Sony describes broad compatibility, with exceptions and possible errors or missing functionality. A PS4 disc cannot be used on PS5 Digital Edition. |
Neither option in these sources establishes a way to play retail PS5 games through a PS5 emulator. For a retail PS4 disc, Sony’s PS5 backward-compatibility support is the documented route; for shadPS4, follow its current guide for PS4 dumps and check game-specific compatibility.
