Clicking a suspicious Discord campaign link does not by itself prove your account was compromised. Stop interacting with the link, then act according to what happened next: whether you entered a password or MFA code, approved an app, downloaded a file, or noticed unauthorized account activity.
First, stop and assess what happened
Do not enter a password, MFA code, payment details, or other personal information on the campaign page, and do not download or run anything it offers. Open Discord through the app or type its address yourself rather than following the campaign link or a follow-up message.
Separate the event into the relevant cases below. A webpage click is not the same as granting a Discord app access or running a downloaded file.
- You only opened the page: That alone does not establish account takeover. Check for warning signs and secure the account if you have concerns.
- You entered your Discord password or MFA code: Treat the credentials as exposed. If you can still sign in, change your password promptly and review account access.
- You approved an app: Review Discord’s Authorized Apps list and revoke any access you do not recognize or no longer want.
- You downloaded or ran a file: Check the device, especially if it behaves abnormally. Discord recommends running Windows Defender on Windows.
If you can still access your Discord account
Change your password
Use a strong password that you do not use on any other site. Discord’s stated minimum is eight characters, with possible additional requirements in some regions; a longer, unique password is preferable. Discord recommends using a password manager to generate and store unique passwords.

- Desktop or browser: Open User Settings → My Account → Change Password.
- Mobile: Tap your avatar → Settings → Account → Password.
- Follow the prompts. If MFA is enabled, Discord will ask for an MFA code during the change.

Review authorized apps
In User Settings, open Authorized Apps and revoke access for apps you do not recognize or no longer want connected. A normal webpage visit does not necessarily grant an app permission; check this list rather than assuming that it did.

Set up MFA and protect recovery codes
Discord supports passkeys/security keys, authenticator apps, and SMS. Discord describes passkeys and security keys as phishing resistant and recommends them; an authenticator app is another supported option. SMS is less advisable because text messages and phone numbers can be intercepted or taken over through SIM swapping. No MFA method makes an account immune to phishing or takeover.
Save Discord’s one-time backup codes somewhere secure. They may be essential if you lose access to your usual MFA method; Discord says Support cannot remove MFA for an account. A physical FIDO2 security key is an optional MFA device, not a way to recover an account after a suspicious click.

If you cannot sign in
Password forgotten or rejected
Go to Discord’s official login page, enter the email address associated with the account, and choose Forgot your password? Follow the instructions Discord emails to that address. Discord Support says it cannot reset a password on your behalf.
The account email was changed
Check the original email inbox immediately for Discord’s email-change notice. It includes a Start Account Recovery link beginning with https://discord.com/wasntme/. Discord says the link is valid for 48 hours. Using it can revert the email address, log the account out of all devices, require a new password, and remove the phone number and MFA methods; add those back after recovery.
Do not share the unique recovery link. Discord says Support cannot send a replacement after it expires. Follow the instructions in My Discord Email was Changed and I Want to Undo It.

You are locked out by MFA
Use an available backup code or another MFA option you previously configured. Discord identifies backup codes as an important recovery route and says Support cannot remove MFA from an account. Keep any remaining codes private and secure.

If you suspect someone accessed the account, submit a hacked-account ticket through Discord Support. Include relevant details and any unauthorized Discord transactions. Discord says its staff will not contact users directly in-app to ask for personal information, payment, or login changes.
If you find an unauthorized Discord charge, report it through Discord’s support request and billing process. Discord warns that requesting a bank chargeback or refund directly for a Discord transaction may lead to account suspension while it investigates; its guidance directs users to its billing request for refunds.

If you downloaded or ran a file
Discord recommends running Windows Defender on Windows to look for potential viruses. A click alone does not establish that your device is infected, and Discord’s guidance does not make a factory reset, operating-system reinstall, or paid cleaner an automatic response. If the device is behaving abnormally, avoid using it for sensitive logins until you have checked it.
