Riftbound is Riot’s League of Legends trading card game; “League of Legends collectibles” is a much broader category. A Riftbound starter box is for learning and playing, booster displays contain sealed cards from a named set, and sleeves or playmats are accessories. A champion figure is display merchandise—not Riftbound game content.
What is Riftbound?
Riftbound is a trading card game based on League of Legends. It is distinct from the wider range of League merchandise, which includes non-card items such as character figures. The official Riftbound site presents the game and its products; Riot’s collectibles category includes both Riftbound items and other merchandise.
So the useful comparison is not “which collectible is better?” but “what do I want to do with it?” The product may be intended for playing, expanding a card collection, protecting cards, or displaying a champion.
Which Riftbound product should you choose?
| Your goal | Product to consider | What you’re buying |
|---|---|---|
| Learn and play | Proving Grounds starter box | A guided boxed game experience designed for 2–4 players. |
| Add cards from a particular set | Booster display | Sealed booster packs from a named Riftbound set; the cards are randomized. |
| Protect or personalize cards | Card sleeves or playmat | Accessories for use with the card game, not cards or figures. |
| Display a favorite champion | League of Legends figure or other merchandise | A character-display collectible, not a Riftbound deck or booster. |
For learning and playing: Proving Grounds
Riot describes Proving Grounds as a guided learn-to-play box featuring Annie, Master Yi, Lux, and Garen, designed for 2–4 players. The Riot Games Store says its deck-upgrade suggestions can help players move toward competitive play, while boosters are sold separately. That makes it the clearest starting point for someone who wants to sit down and play rather than begin with loose or randomized card additions. Check the Proving Grounds product page for the current component list and availability.

For cards from a set: booster displays
A booster display is a sealed card product tied to a specific set, not a starter experience. Riot calls Origins the debut set. Its Spiritforged booster listing describes 14-card packs drawn from a pool of more than 220 cards. Those are product specifications on that listing; check the live page before relying on them. A display expands a collection or deck, but do not assume it guarantees a particular card unless the product’s specific terms say so.
For card care or table setup: sleeves and playmats
Sleeves protect cards, while a playmat provides a play surface. Neither is a deck, booster, or character figure. An Asmodee USA catalog published in June 2026 lists Riftbound art sleeves and playmats alongside card products; see its active catalog.

For display: figures and other League merchandise
If you want a physical representation of a champion rather than something to play, look at the exact figure or other item in Riot’s collectibles category. Its listing names a Hall of Legends Tristana figure, for example. A figure is a display collectible, not a Riftbound card product. Confirm the item’s edition, scale, and current listing before buying; the category page does not establish the full current inventory.
How to check what a listing actually includes
- Identify the product type. Look for “starter,” “booster display,” “sleeves,” “playmat,” or “figure” in the exact product name.
- Check the named set. For a booster product, confirm whether it is Origins, Spiritforged, or another set. A set name identifies the card product; it does not promise a particular card.
- Read the included-components description. For a starter, confirm what is in the box and whether additional boosters are separate.
- Check the current official listing. Product pages, release timing, and stock can change. Availability at one store or in one region does not establish availability elsewhere.
Availability, reprints, and changing set dates
On March 31, 2026, Riot said reprints of Origins and Proving Grounds were beginning to roll out and that it intended to keep printing early Riftbound sets while working toward healthier availability. That announcement is useful context if a listing suggests scarcity, but it does not prove that a product is in stock now at a particular retailer or in a particular region. Check the retailer’s live listing.

Because that date is close to the date of this article, check the current official set information to establish whether it is upcoming, released, or delayed. For historical context, Riot’s buying guide recorded the English launch date as October 31, 2025 and described Origins starter and booster products.
