Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor most new players, the clearest route through Warframe is to choose the starter whose combat style appeals to you, then focus on Junctions, main quests, and Star Chart progress. Excalibur, Volt, and Mag are all starting options; none locks you out of the others. As planets open, farm for a specific blueprint or missing crafting resource, and use mods to strengthen your gear within its capacity.
Which starter Warframe should you choose?
Digital Extremes offers Excalibur, Volt, and Mag. Its descriptions point to different play styles, not a ranked list of the strongest frames. Your first choice is a starting preference: you can build or obtain other Warframes later.
| Starter | What the official description emphasizes | May suit a player who prefers |
|---|---|---|
| Excalibur | Swordsmanship | Direct, close-range combat |
| Volt | Electricity | Electric-themed abilities and speed-oriented play |
| Mag | Magnetic fields, crowd control, and stripping enemy defenses | Controlling groups and weakening defenses |
These are broad play-style cues from the official Quick Start Guide, not claims about a current competitive tier list. If you are undecided, choose the theme that sounds most enjoyable and keep progressing; later frame options are part of the game.
What should you focus on first?
Make Junctions, main quests, and accessible Star Chart missions your default path. Digital Extremes puts it plainly: “Progressing through each Junction and following the main Quests should be your primary focus.” Junctions open planets and mission locations, while Star Chart progress expands the resources available for crafting equipment.

#1 Best Overall
- Complete the opening steps and follow the main quest. Use the quest objectives to learn basic systems and unlock progression.
- Work toward the next Junction. Check its listed requirements, complete them, and use the Junction to advance to new planets and missions.
- Clear available Star Chart nodes as needed. New locations broaden the missions and resources you can reach.
- Check Navigation before farming. Review a mission’s average enemy level and faction, then check the listed resources for the item you intend to craft.
This route is more dependable for a new account than trying to pursue every activity at once. For Digital Extremes’ explanation of early progression, see 10 Quick Tips for New Warframe Players.
When should you explore open landscapes?
The Plains of Eidolon and Orb Vallis can appear early, but their higher-level bounties and Syndicate progression assume more familiarity with the game and a stronger loadout. You can explore when curious; if their options feel overwhelming or difficult, return after building up through quests, Junctions, and the Star Chart. Digital Extremes recommends learning core systems and upgrading gear before tackling the tougher bounty content.

How to farm efficiently as a beginner
Start with a named need rather than a vague goal such as “farm everything.” That might be one blueprint, a particular crafting resource, Endo for mod upgrades, or credits for a purchase. Navigation helps you match that need to a planet and mission that can provide it.
- Choose the item you want to make. Look at its Foundry requirements and identify the ingredient you lack.
- Find where that ingredient is available. Use Navigation’s resource information and select an accessible mission on the relevant planet.
- Check mission context. Note the enemy faction and average level before launching so you can choose a mission appropriate to your gear.
- Repeat only as much as the goal requires. Once you have the needed resource or blueprint, return to progression or set a new, specific goal.
Some 2026 third-party guides name repeatable nodes such as Earth’s Mariana or Coba and Jupiter’s IO. Treat those as version-sensitive examples, not guaranteed “best” farms: a node’s value depends on the resource or reward you want, your progression, and current game details. The official guidance supports using Navigation and matching the mission to the need, rather than promising a universal credit, affinity, or relic rate.

How to get another Warframe
Building another frame is a useful early progression goal once you have access to the required planets. Official acquisition routes for the three starters include boss drops for Excalibur and Mag, and Clan Dojo research for Volt.
| Warframe | Route | Prerequisite or note |
|---|---|---|
| Excalibur | Earn component blueprints from Lieutenant Lech Kril at War on Mars; buy the main blueprint from the in-game Market with Credits. | Mars access. The official acquisition page, dated November 2024, lists 38.72% for Neuroptics, 38.72% for Chassis, and 22.56% for Systems. It lists 12 real-world hours to craft each component and 72 hours to assemble the frame. Check the live game for current drop and crafting details. |
| Mag | Earn component blueprints from The Sergeant at Iliad on Phobos. | Phobos access; see the official Mag page. |
| Volt | Replicate blueprints in a Clan Dojo’s Tenno Lab. | Requires access to a clan and its Dojo research; see the official Volt page. |
The acquisition pages for these routes were published in November 2024, so consult the current in-game information if a drop location or crafting detail appears different. Planet access comes first; these are goals for later early-game progression, not farms available from the opening mission.

Mods are the main way to tailor and improve your equipment. Each equipped mod uses capacity. Equipment gains capacity as it levels, and matching a mod’s polarity to a slot halves that mod’s capacity cost; a polarity mismatch doubles it. A Warframe Aura mod also provides a squad benefit and, when its polarity matches, increases Warframe capacity.
Build around what you can equip
- Equip useful mods instead of leaving available slots empty, but work within current capacity.
- Choose mods to support the frame, weapon type, and mission rather than copying a rigid list.
- Keep a useful copy of a mod. Digital Extremes says new players generally need only one copy of most mods; duplicates can be dissolved into Endo.
- Invest Endo and Credits in a compact set of useful upgrades instead of trying to rank every mod you own.
Digital Extremes’ curated pack includes examples such as Vitality, Redirection, Flow, Intensify, Continuity, Stretch, Streamline, Serration, and elemental weapon mods. That is an inventory of common mod families, not a requirement to max every one or a universal ranking. For beginner advice on mods, Endo, and other core systems, see the official new-player tips.

Two useful habits that make the early game easier
Use movement, not just sprinting
Bullet jumping is a core movement technique: crouch and jump to launch forward. Practicing it helps you move through missions more fluidly while exploring and looting.
Explore and loot as you progress
Collecting resources during missions can contribute to future crafting goals. When you decide what to build, check the Foundry requirements and use Navigation to direct your next farm instead of accumulating resources without a purpose.
