Ubisoft employees staged a planned three-day strike from February 10–12, 2026, protesting restructuring and cost-cutting plans alongside work pressure, pay concerns and changes to work organization. Solidaires Informatique reported at least 1,200 participants; Ubisoft was later reported as giving a figure of 538. Those are conflicting attributed estimates, not a verified final count.
Why did Ubisoft workers strike?
The strike reflected several reported labor concerns, not layoffs alone. Solidaires Informatique representative Marc Rutschlé said the company was continuing its cost-reduction and layoff plan while teams faced pressure and were often understaffed. Workers also raised concerns about several years without raises or only small increases. Engadget reported that a return-to-office mandate was part of the dispute’s context. GameSpot and Engadget covered the grievances.
Rutschlé criticized Ubisoft leadership’s understanding of the company and its employees. These are the union representative’s reported views, rather than findings independently established by the available coverage.
How many employees went on strike?
The reports give two different figures:
| Reported figure | Attribution | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| At least 1,200 | Solidaires Informatique representative Marc Rutschlé, as quoted by GameSpot | A union-side estimate; not an independently verified final total. |
| 538 | Ubisoft, as reported by Nintendo Life | The company’s reported figure; the available coverage does not reconcile it with the union-side estimate. |
The estimates may reflect different counting methods or measurement times, but the available reporting does not establish why they differ. Neither figure should be treated as a confirmed total covering all three days. GameSpot reported that the action was mainly in France, with participation also at Ubisoft Milan. Nintendo Life reported Ubisoft’s figure.

What did Ubisoft say?
Ubisoft said its January 21 transformation was intended to strengthen team autonomy and creativity within its Creative Houses and support the company’s long-term sustainability. Responding to the strike, the company acknowledged that changes to work organization were generating strong feelings. It said it had held discussions and information sessions at multiple levels and remained committed to dialogue with employees and their representatives. GameSpot reproduced the company’s response.

In its FY2025–26 results, published May 20, 2026, Ubisoft reported 16,590 employees at the end of March—around 1,200 fewer than a year earlier. The company connected the reduction to cost-cutting efforts and voluntary attrition. This is a year-over-year headcount change, not the number of people who struck. Ubisoft also reported a €1.435 billion fixed-cost base for FY2025–26, down €118 million (8%) year over year and nearly €325 million cumulatively since FY2022–23. Its final cost-reduction phase targeted a €1.25 billion run-rate fixed-cost base by March 2028. These are company-reported figures and plans.
