For a flight, commute, or stretch without reliable Wi-Fi, these ten iPhone and iPad games are strong places to start. Apple features them in its offline-game editorial collections, but that is not a guarantee that every feature or piece of content will work without a connection. Download and launch each game while online before you travel.
Apple publishes separate offline-game collections for iPhone and iPad; they overlap, but are not identical. The games below are a balanced shortlist drawn from those collections, not a scored or hands-on ranking. Device fit and purchase model are noted where established; check the current App Store listing for exact compatibility and price.

Apple’s iPhone collection also includes Archero, It’s Literally Just Mowing, and Overboard!; its iPad collection includes Loop Hero, The Gardens Between, and Bastion. These are useful alternatives if the ten above do not match your taste. Apple’s feature descriptions identify Automatoys as a virtual marble-run-style puzzle and describe the other titles by their broad genres. How to choose for your trip
For short sessions
Crossy Road, Wordscapes, KAMI 2, and Retro Bowl suit quick play breaks. Their arcade, puzzle, and sports formats are easy to return to between stops.

Prepare games before going offline
- While connected, open the App Store listing and confirm the game supports your iPhone or iPad, your installed OS version, and your region.
- Download the game and any available content. The cited Apple collections do not establish whether every game needs additional downloads, account sign-in, or setup before it can be played offline.
- Launch the game while online and reach a playable point. This helps reveal setup screens or connection requirements before you are without service.
- Test the offline state if practical. Disconnect Wi-Fi and cellular data briefly and check that the game opens and the mode you want is accessible. This is a practical check, not a guarantee that all future content or features will remain available offline.
Apple Arcade and offline play
Apple says Apple Arcade games can be played online or offline across Apple devices. Arcade requires an active subscription to download games; availability varies by country or region, and access to Arcade games ends when the subscription is canceled. Apple’s US page currently lists $6.99 per month or $49.99 per year and says Family Sharing can include up to five other people. Prices and offers can change. A controller is optional, and support depends on the game. Apple says a controller icon on a game’s App Store product page indicates controller support; check the individual listing before packing an accessory.
