Is ARC Raiders worth playing? If you want an extraction game built around tense scavenging, dangerous machines and the constant possibility that another player is listening, it makes a strong case. Calling it 2025’s best multiplayer game is a subjective verdict, not a verified award claim; the more useful question is whether its risk-and-reward loop fits the way you like to play.
What kind of game is ARC Raiders?
ARC Raiders is an online extraction adventure from Embark Studios. Raiders live in Speranza, an underground refuge, and venture onto a lethal future Earth to scavenge, complete jobs and get back out with what they find. The setting mixes remnants of Italy’s history with infrastructure built for space travel, a world the developer describes as “post-post-apocalyptic.” The game was built using Unreal Engine 5, according to Embark’s official site.
Each raid turns a practical choice into the game’s central tension: how long to stay. The surface holds valuable loot, but it is also patrolled by ARC machines and shared with other Raiders. Embark’s description emphasizes the noise of battle and the chance that other Raiders are listening. A route that seems manageable can change when a machine draws attention or another player appears.
That uncertainty is the strongest argument for the game’s multiplayer appeal. The PvE threats give players a reason to move and react; the PvP threat means no encounter is fully predictable. Whether that mix feels exciting or stressful will depend on your tolerance for losing a raid’s potential rewards.

How do raids, progression and tactics work?
Before heading topside, players can prepare and upgrade gear in a workshop. A raid can bring back loot for crafting and upgrades, while quests for Traders and a three-branch skill tree—Survival, Mobility and Conditioning—provide longer-term goals. The game’s Steam listing describes these systems alongside firearms, advanced weapons, grenades, traps, ziplines and deployable equipment: ARC Raiders on Steam.
At launch, Steam described four maps, with conditions that can vary by weather, enemies and mechanics. Those details give the surface more texture than a single repeated arena, but launch information should not be read as a definitive account of the current map roster or every live mechanic.
The extraction loop makes the gear economy meaningful: scavenging only pays off if you can leave with what you found. Staying longer may offer more opportunity, but also exposes you to additional threats. That risk, rather than a simple match score, is what gives each decision weight.

Can you play ARC Raiders solo, and is it cross-platform?
Yes. Steam says players can go solo or form parties of up to three. The listing identifies online PvP, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. Embark’s site lists Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and GeForce NOW, and describes cross-platform social play across PlayStation, Xbox and PC. See the official platform information and Steam listing for the stated availability and features.
Solo play is an option, not a promise that raids become safer or that every situation is balanced around one player. The defining uncertainty—machines, other Raiders and the decision to extract—remains. In a squad, coordination can help, but a party is capped at three according to Steam’s description.
Cross-platform multiplayer is stated; cross-save is not established by these product details. If you plan to switch platforms and keep progression, check the current official account and support information rather than assuming saves transfer.

Is ARC Raiders worth playing?
PC Gamer’s Elie Gould gave the game an 86 score in a review published November 6, 2025. Gould praised its interesting weapons, beautiful maps and unpredictable, action-packed PvPvE encounters, and characterized it as a less stressful extraction shooter. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a guarantee that every player will find the raids relaxed. Read PC Gamer’s review for that perspective.
The case for playing is clearest if you enjoy making decisions under uncertain risk: whether to keep searching, take a detour, engage a threat or head for extraction. The game also has several routes for continued progression through crafting, Trader quests and skills. Its main caveat is built into the same design: other players can disrupt a plan, and valuable loot is only useful if the raid ends in a successful escape.

The update distinguishes matchmaking coordination from teaming up with someone encountered during a raid. Aleks, Executive Producer of ARC Raiders at Embark, wrote: “Teaming up with someone you meet during a raid through proximity chat is still fair game.”
When is ARC Raiders free to play?
Embark scheduled a free-play window from October 8, 2026 at 09:00 UTC through October 12, 2026 at 08:00 UTC on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation. The announcement says it coincides with the Frozen Trail update. New players can access the Pendola Pass map immediately if they join players who have already unlocked it. Because this is a dated promotion, check Embark’s free-play announcement to confirm whether the window is still upcoming or has ended.
