A Snitch is an unarmed ARC reconnaissance drone that scans for Raiders and can call reinforcements if it spots you. Break line of sight with cover or heavy foliage to stay hidden, or destroy it before its calls complete. The throwable Scanner does the opposite: since Live Update 1.45.0, it attracts ARC in the same general way as a Snitch, with a lower chance of stronger ARC appearing.
How a Snitch detects you and raises an alarm
A Snitch searches with a visible, spotlight-like scanner beam. If the beam spots a Raider, the drone alerts nearby machines and calls reinforcements. Community wiki guidance says heavy foliage may be enough to avoid detection; use cover or break line of sight and move away if you want to avoid escalating the encounter.
Possible responses listed by the community wiki include a pair of Wasps, a Firefly and Hornet duo, or a Rocketeer. Treat these as possible reinforcements, not a guaranteed lineup: the available sources do not establish a probability for each enemy or a detection range.
How to stop a Snitch from calling reinforcements
Break line of sight and leave
Choose stealth when the Snitch has not spotted you or when you would rather avoid a fight. Move behind solid cover or heavy foliage, then leave its scanning area without crossing the beam again. This avoids spending ammunition and reduces exposure, but it depends on getting out of sight before its calls complete.

Destroy it before its calls complete
If the Snitch is exposed and you can attack safely, destroying it may prevent the reinforcements from arriving. The community wiki says reinforcements are guaranteed once it begins its third call, so act before that point rather than relying on a last-second kill. The wiki also identifies the thrusters as unarmored weak points and says damaging multiple thrusters can destabilize the drone. These are community-reported tactics; no official combat guidance or kill-shot count is established here.
What the Snitch Scanner does now
The Scanner is a throwable item that attracts ARC to the place where it lands. Embark Studios’ Live Update 1.45.0, dated 8 September 2026, says Snitch Scanners now spawn ARC on the same pattern as regular Snitches, with a lower chance of stronger ARC appearing. This current official note supersedes older descriptions that say the item only calls Wasps.
Rank #2
The note does not quantify the chance of stronger ARC or identify the probability of a particular enemy, so it does not establish whether a Scanner will summon a Rocketeer on any given throw. Use it only when you are prepared for an ARC encounter at its landing area.
Choose between staying hidden and attracting ARC
| Choice | Best when | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Hide from the Snitch and move away | You want to avoid an encounter and still have time to break line of sight. | Stay out of the scanner beam while leaving. |
| Destroy the Snitch | It is exposed and you can finish the attack before its calls complete. | Attacking can expose you; the wiki says reinforcements are guaranteed from the third call onward. |
| Throw a Scanner | You deliberately want ARC to arrive near the landing spot. | It creates a threat rather than a distraction-free way to scout; stronger ARC are less likely, not ruled out. |
Scanner uses to consider before throwing or recycling it
The community item page lists the Scanner as an uncommon item scavenged from ARC Snitches. It lists six Scanners for the Utility Station 1-to-2 upgrade and two for The Trifecta quest. Its listed recycling output is one ARC Alloy and two Electrical Components; salvaging yields two Electrical Components. Community item data can lag game updates, so check the in-game recipe or quest requirement before using exact quantities.
