Pokémon Legends: Arceus has 242 entries in its numbered Hisui Pokédex, beginning with Rowlet at #001. To check the roster and find routes for entries you are missing, use the complete numbered guide from Nintendo Life; Serebii’s Hisui Pokédex is a second numbered reference.
What the 242-entry count means
The 242 figure is the count of Pokémon in the game’s numbered Hisui Pokédex, as reported by Nintendo Life’s guide published February 8, 2022. It is not a count of every cosmetic or alternate form as a separate entry. The official Pokémon Legends: Arceus Pokémon page describes Hisuian forms as forms found only in Hisui with unique characteristics, and distinguishes them from newly discovered Pokémon.

The official page identifies Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott as the first partners. It also highlights Wyrdeer, Basculegion, and Kleavor as newly discovered Pokémon. These are useful categories for understanding the roster, but they do not replace the numbered Pokédex checklist.

Its numbered table covers the roster and notes that not every Pokémon is obtained by catching it in the wild. The Serebii numbered Hisui Pokédex offers a second roster reference.

Check the entry’s number first, then follow its specific acquisition condition. Depending on the Pokémon, the route may involve finding it in an area, evolving another Pokémon, visiting a space-time distortion, or completing a mission or request.
Why starter entries can require more than a choice
Choosing Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott as a first partner does not by itself explain every route for filling their Pokédex entries. Nintendo Life’s guide notes that starter Pokémon can also be found in space-time distortions, and that Professor Laventon can provide starters not chosen initially after the main story. Check the individual Pokémon and evolution entries in the guide for the applicable route.
