There is no verified, apples-to-apples damage ranking for these blueprints. The strongest choices depend on whether you want a ranged weapon, a flexible melee option, or a reward you can find without relying on random vendor stock. This shortlist compares eight blueprints by combat role, how you acquire them, upgrade options, and crafting burden.

Blueprints unlock recipes you can use to craft gear at benches or craftmasters. You gather the materials, and weapons can be upgraded as well as worn down through use. Techland describes crafting as combining scavenged parts for weapons and other survival items; its overview also discusses bleed, burn, shock, and durability mods (Techland’s crafting and upgrades overview).

How to choose which blueprints are worth crafting

Think of “best” as a role-based shortlist, not a universal ranking. The available guides document locations, recipes, and upgrade tiers, but they do not provide controlled damage comparisons across these weapons, a defined player build, or tests on a specified difficulty and game version.

  • Combat role: The Sawblade Launcher and Hunting Bow cover different kinds of ranged combat; the other six are melee options.
  • Acquisition: A fixed world location or puzzle is predictable. Random vendor stock is not.
  • Upgrade flexibility: Some listed blueprints have tier tables or mod slots, which can help you tailor a weapon to your preferred combat style.
  • Resource burden: Compare the base recipe with any recurring costs, such as ammunition. A weapon that is costly to keep supplied may be less convenient than its blueprint suggests.

The recipes and locations below follow Keengamer’s blueprint reference, published October 23, 2025, except where the Sawblade Launcher entry uses PC Gamer’s more detailed guide. Treat these as guide-listed values, not a promise that every recipe or location is unchanged in every game update.

The 8 best blueprints to craft

1. Sawblade Launcher — high-impact ranged option

The blueprint is at the workbench in the Silos safe zone in Pembroke. PC Gamer calls it the best ranged weapon in its guide; that is the outlet’s assessment, not a result from a comparable damage test of all eight weapons.

PC Gamer’s route starts at the northern edge of Old Town: head east to Pembroke in The Vale, then climb the silo using the dangling rope and a pipe route to reach the workbench area. The guide lists a substantial recipe: 100 scraps, 10 blades, 3 batteries, and 1 gun part. Each ammunition craft yields two units and costs 20 scraps, 5 leather, and 3 blades. Budget for ammunition as well as the weapon itself if you plan to use it regularly. (PC Gamer’s Sawblade Launcher location and recipe guide.)

2. Hunting Bow — conventional ranged choice

Find the blueprint on the crafting bench in the Monastery. The listed base recipe is 15 scraps, 10 wiring, 6 rags, and 6 feathers. The bow can be upgraded, and it gives players who prefer arrows a different ranged option from the specialized launcher. (Keengamer’s blueprint locations and recipes.)

3. Extinguisher — customizable one-handed melee

The blueprint is at Library Tower Safe Location. Keengamer lists three mod slots at each of the rare, epic, and legendary tiers, making it a flexible candidate for players who want to tune a one-handed weapon. The documented slot count does not establish that it deals more damage than other melee choices. (Keengamer’s blueprint locations and recipes.)

Rank #3
Dying Light: The Beast
  • - You are Kyle Crane, and after years of brutal experiments, you want revenge.
  • - Experience a unique blend of open world and survival horror as you hunt down the man who transformed you into half man, half beast.

4. Ciupaga — fixed-location one-handed melee

Look for the Ciupaga hanging outside Misty Forest Resort, east of Mountain Shelter Tower. It is a one-handed option with listed upgrade tiers through legendary. The fixed location makes it more predictable to pursue than a blueprint that depends on vendor stock. (Keengamer’s blueprint locations and recipes.)

5. Break Knuckles — knuckle-focused close combat

The blueprint is at Abandoned House Safe Zone. Keengamer lists rare, epic, and legendary tiers, with increasing listed affixes and durability. Choose it for its knuckle-weapon role and upgrade path rather than an unverified damage advantage over other melee weapons. (Keengamer’s blueprint locations and recipes.)

Rank #4

6. Reforged Khanjar — one-handed melee with uncertain availability

The Reforged Khanjar is a vendor blueprint available at random, so finding it is less predictable than reaching a fixed location. Its listed tiers have three mod slots. It is worth considering if you want an upgradeable one-handed option, but do not make a specific vendor visit your only plan for obtaining it. (Keengamer’s blueprint locations and recipes.)

7. Strauss&Broda Machete — a specific unlock task

The blueprint is on the roof of Nate’s near Cement Gardens in the Industrial Park. To get it, unlock the office door, then knock on the box until it opens. Keengamer’s tier table lists three mod slots. This is a useful pick for players willing to complete the specific rooftop task for a one-handed melee blueprint. (Keengamer’s blueprint locations and recipes.)

8. The Breslau Blade — exploration and puzzle reward

Destroy all nine emblems in the courtyard in front of Town Hall, then take the sword from the central statue. The blueprint reference lists upgrade tiers and mod slots, so this is a good target if you enjoy completing an area puzzle to earn a weapon rather than seeking one through random vendor stock. What crafting and upgrades change

A blueprint is a recipe, not a free weapon: the reference says blueprints may be found or bought from vendors, while crafted gear uses scavenged materials. Techland says weapons have durability and upgrade paths, and identifies bleed, burn, shock, and durability effects among the available mod benefits. That makes upgrade flexibility a practical reason to pursue a weapon, but it does not tell you which blueprint has the highest damage in your particular build. (Techland’s crafting and upgrades overview.)

The Keengamer list excludes event weapons, preorder bonuses, and other limited-time weapons, and notes that only a handful of weapons encountered in the game can be crafted at a bench. Its entries are therefore a useful guide to documented craftable options, not a complete inventory of every weapon you might encounter. A Steam Community guide also covers weapon blueprints, but its page displays a removed or incompatible notice, so it is not a dependable source for detailed current acquisition directions. (Steam Community weapon blueprint guide.)

Quick Recap

Which blueprint should you pursue first?

  • For a ranged weapon and you can afford ongoing supplies: pursue the Sawblade Launcher, accounting for both its high listed crafting cost and ammunition recipe.
  • For arrows: look for the Hunting Bow at the Monastery and use its listed base recipe to plan materials.
  • For a customizable one-handed melee weapon: consider the Extinguisher, whose listed tiers each have three mod slots.
  • For a predictable exploration goal: choose a fixed-location blueprint such as the Ciupaga or the Breslau Blade; the latter requires completing the nine-emblem courtyard task.
  • If you are willing to wait on vendor stock: the Reforged Khanjar offers an upgradeable one-handed option, but availability is random.
