Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf you want to skip the weak opening stretch, Prototype and Saints Row IV are the clearest picks: both put exceptional abilities in your hands early and let you turn movement into mayhem. The rest of this list covers different flavors of power—from god-scale spectacle to technically demanding action—and flags games where strength arrives later rather than at the start.
“Overpowered” doesn’t always mean “easy.” Some games make you formidable but still expect precise timing, while others deliver their thrill through a fast climb in power over a run. These recommendations distinguish starting strength from abilities gained as you play.
Best games for feeling powerful right away
1. Prototype
Prototype is one of the strongest matches for a new-game power fantasy. Alex Mercer can shapeshift his arms into weapons, consume people, sprint up buildings, and confront military forces. Its appeal is the freedom to combine destructive abilities with fast traversal: you can move across the city and engage threats without being confined to a conventional shooter’s pace.
- Power timing: Exceptional abilities are available early.
- Power source: Innate shapeshifting and mobility.
- Best for: Open-world destruction and combining movement with combat.
2. Saints Row IV
Saints Row IV makes superpowers the point of its open-world chaos. Super-speed and super-jumps change how you cross the city, while elemental and telekinetic abilities expand how you take on its challenges. Rather than simply making the protagonist hit harder, the powers reshape movement and interaction with the city.

3. Asura’s Wrath
Asura’s Wrath offers power on a huge cinematic scale. Its deity-like lead faces fights framed as extraordinary spectacles, making this a better choice for players who want to feel overwhelming through sheer scale than for those seeking a flexible sandbox or tactical combat.
- Power timing: The premise centers on a mighty protagonist from the outset.
- Power source: Supernatural strength and cinematic escalation.
- Best for: Maximalist action spectacle rather than open-ended freedom.
4. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Raiden is a powerful cyborg ninja, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance gives you dramatic tools such as Blade Mode. But being formidable does not make fights automatic: parries, timing, and reading boss patterns still matter. Choose it if you want power paired with a genuine execution challenge.

Bayonetta begins as an exceptionally capable fighter. Witch Time rewards well-timed dodges, demon summons add spectacular force, and the combat encourages stylish play. The challenge is less about starting from weakness and more about learning to use that strength with control and flair.
- Power timing: The protagonist is highly capable from the start.
- Power source: Supernatural abilities and combat mastery.
- Best for: Expressive action where style and execution go together.
6. Destroy All Humans!
Destroy All Humans! flips the usual alien-invasion perspective: you play an alien with advanced tools, psychic abilities, and a flying saucer against human opponents. Its power fantasy is comic mayhem, with different tools letting you cause trouble in different ways. The recommendation here is for the game generally; the cited coverage also discusses a 2020 remake, but that does not establish a preferred edition or current availability.

More ways to enjoy an early power fantasy
7. Infamous Second Son
Infamous Second Son gives protagonist Delsin supernatural abilities early, beginning with smoke powers. It adds further power types as the story progresses, so it is a fit if you are happy to grow into a broader set of abilities rather than having every power at the opening. Its appeal lies in the mix of movement and combat options.
- Power timing: Early access to powers, with more arriving later.
- Power source: Supernatural abilities that expand over the story.
- Best for: Players who want an early start and variety that builds over time.
8. Just Cause
Just Cause is a more tool-driven take on power. Traversal tools and the environment enable spectacular movement and creative chaos, rather than giving you a conventional superhero moveset. It suits players who want to experiment with mobility and the sandbox instead of relying on a fixed set of superpowers.

9. Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry is a good fit if “overpowered” means beginning as an impressive action hero and expressing that strength through combat. Its draw is stylish, expressive fighting; the satisfaction comes from using the protagonist’s capabilities well, not from treating enemies as no challenge at all.
- Power timing: An already capable protagonist anchors the fantasy.
- Power source: Supernatural abilities and player mastery.
- Best for: Stylish action and learning to fight with flair.
10. Doom Eternal
Doom Eternal puts you in the role of a formidable shooter protagonist and builds combat around aggressive momentum and resource recovery. That does not make it an easy pick: it is a demanding shooter, and staying effective means engaging with its combat loop rather than assuming raw strength will carry every encounter.

One near-fit: power that arrives within minutes
11. Vampire Survivors
Vampire Survivors is included with an important distinction: you start weak and can become overwhelming during a run. It is not a literal “powerful from minute one” game. Pick it if rapid escalation during a session scratches the same itch, rather than if you want to begin a fresh game already dominant.
- Power timing: Rapid growth during a run, not an overpowered opening.
- Power source: Progression within the run.
- Best for: Watching a modest start turn into overwhelming screen-filling strength.
How to choose the right kind of overpowered
| What you want | Start here | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate open-world powers | Prototype or Saints Row IV | Early abilities change both movement and combat. |
| Huge cinematic scale | Asura’s Wrath | Power is delivered as spectacle, not sandbox freedom. |
| Strength that still demands skill | Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance or Bayonetta | Timing, combat execution, or style remains central. |
| More powers as the story goes | Infamous Second Son | You get powers early, then add more over time. |
| Tools and environmental chaos | Just Cause or Destroy All Humans! | One emphasizes sandbox mobility; the other alien gear and comic mayhem. |
| Power that builds during play | Vampire Survivors | You start weak and grow overwhelming within a run. |
Does New Game Plus count as starting overpowered?
Not for the fresh-game version of this request. New Game Plus is a replay after completing the story, typically carrying over some or all acquired items or experience. That can make a second playthrough powerful, but it does not mean a new save begins that way. If you want to skip the weak opening on your first run, choose a game above based on what it gives you early; don’t treat a post-completion mode as equivalent.
