There is no single best weapon in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: the right pick depends on its special trait, what you Fuse to it, its durability, and the job you need it to do. This guide focuses on 11 weapons with useful, distinct roles—from the Master Sword as a flexible all-rounder to the Cobble Crusher for breaking rocks—rather than claiming a universal damage ranking.

How to choose the best weapon in Tears of the Kingdom

Judge a weapon by its full setup, not just its base attack. Nintendo says Fuse can increase damage or durability, or add a combat effect; Fuse works with weapons, shields, and arrows. The result depends on the material: Nintendo notes that boulders raise damage potential and durability, while enemy horns can make weapons hardier, but not every material adds durability. See Nintendo’s beginner guide to Tears of the Kingdom and its official game page.

That means “best” changes with your task. A fragile weapon that hits hard just before breaking may suit a short burst of damage, while a weapon with a special condition or utility trait can be more useful in the right encounter. The item traits below are descriptions reported by Kiranico’s game-data database and Nintendo Life, not a measured ranking or a claim that one weapon wins in every situation.

11 weapons worth using, by role

1. Master Sword: flexible general-purpose choice

The Master Sword is a dependable all-round option, with flexibility in the parts you can Fuse to it and the significance of its special status. Its base attack is not necessarily the highest, so think of it as adaptable rather than an automatic damage champion. Nintendo Life discusses its flexibility in its best weapons guide.

2. Savage Lynel Bow: ranged burst damage

The Savage Lynel Bow fires three arrows at once, giving it a distinct role when you want multi-shot ranged damage. Fused arrow materials can add effects, so the outcome depends on both your aim and the material you choose. Nintendo Life notes that obtaining this bow involves defeating a Lynel; it is a demanding pick if you are not ready for that fight.

3. Gerudo Scimitar: amplify a fused material

The Gerudo Scimitar greatly enhances the power of an attached material, making it a strong choice for a deliberate fused melee hit. The tradeoff is less durability, so it suits players willing to replace weapons rather than preserve one for long stretches. Its advantage comes from the fused material as well as the weapon body.

4. Royal Guard’s Claymore: risky damage near breaking

This claymore has low durability, but its destructive power rises near the point of breaking. That makes it a conditional burst-damage tool, not a reliable everyday weapon: its defining advantage depends on accepting that it is close to breaking. Kiranico’s weapon database describes the trait.

5. Royal Claymore: reward a successful flurry rush

The Royal Claymore is suited to players who consistently trigger flurry rushes after a perfect dodge. Its listed trait supports a stronger flurry rush, so it is more compelling in the hands of someone who uses that mechanic than for a player who mainly attacks in open exchanges.

Rank #2
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Standard - Nintendo Switch [Digital Code]
  • Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
  • Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
  • Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
  • Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.

6. Scimitar of the Seven: named special sword

The Scimitar of the Seven is a notable one-handed weapon associated with Urbosa. Kiranico lists its attack and durability attributes, but those values alone do not establish that it outperforms every other endgame choice. Treat it as a distinctive special weapon, not a proven strongest-in-slot pick.

7. Cobble Crusher: break rocks and clear ore

The Cobble Crusher is explicitly identified as a rock-breaking tool. Bring it when ore deposits or rock barriers are the task; for those jobs, its practical utility matters more than maximizing damage against an enemy.

8. Zora Longsword: take advantage of wet conditions

The Zora Longsword gains attack power when wet. It is a situational combat choice: its appeal depends on maintaining the wet condition, so it is less attractive when you cannot reliably do that.

9. Eightfold Blade: make stealth openings count

The Eightfold Blade can yield more powerful sneakstrikes. Choose it if you prefer approaching enemies quietly and opening with a sneakstrike; that benefit matters less once combat becomes a direct, open exchange.

10. Forest Dweller’s Spear: reuse compatible bursting materials

The Forest Dweller’s Spear has a utility trait: bursting materials attached to it can be reused. That gives it a role for compatible materials and repeated effects, rather than making it a straightforward highest-damage recommendation.

11. Zonaite Longsword: support a Zonai-device build

The Zonaite Longsword resonates with attached Zonai devices to slightly increase attack power. It is a niche choice for builds centered on those devices; outside that setup, its special trait is less relevant.

What should you Fuse to your weapons?

Choose a material for the result you want, and check its stated effect rather than assuming every Fuse adds durability. Nintendo’s guide says boulders raise damage potential and durability and that enemy horns can make weapons hardier, while cautioning that material effects vary. A Gerudo Scimitar, for example, emphasizes the power of its attached material but gives up durability. For a bow, the Savage Lynel Bow’s three-arrow volley makes the chosen arrow material part of the ranged effect as well as the damage plan.

Nintendo describes the mechanic this way: “Fusing materials to your weapons can make them more powerful, in addition to producing a wide variety of beneficial combat effects.” The practical choice is therefore task-specific: a material’s damage, durability, or effect matters in combination with the weapon’s trait.

Which bow should you use?

For the ranged role covered here, the Savage Lynel Bow stands out because it fires three arrows at once and supports fused arrows. Its multi-shot output is useful when you can land the shots and select an arrow material that suits the encounter. The bow’s advantage does not remove the need to account for aim, material choice, or the Lynel fight associated with obtaining it.
